A new Differential Rent Scheme is being introduced by Sligo County Council which will see rents increase for exising tenants in February.
The existing scheme has been in effect since January 2020 with no rent review in the meantime but this will change early in the New Year with increases across the board depending on income.
The new changes will see:
Minimum weekly rent increasing to €25 (was €22), a 13.6% rise and will jump to €28 in 2028.
The minimum rent for OAP couple increased to €42 (previously €36).
Sligo County Council manages 2,450 social homes and approximately 700 more units will be added to its stock by 2030.
The council says the increases will bring in an estimated additional €550,000 for the full year and will be reflected in an increase in maintenance/repair budget.
For an OAP couple, living alone on a Non Contributary Pension each will see their rent rise by €6 per week in 2027 from €36 to €42.
A single person on JobSeekers Benefit will see an increase of €5 per week from €38 to €43.
Working parents with 2 children and a household income of €1,000 a week living in the Borough will see a €9 rise to €186 a week while those in the county will see a €3 increase, also to €186.
A single parent (working) with 2 children earning €500 a week will see a rise to €86 a week (from €77 in the Borough and €3 in the County.)
Parents on Social Welfare with two adult children working will see an increase of €15 a week from €149 to €164.
