Apple is expected to launch a new compact tablet later this month. This device will succeed 2024's iPad Mini 7, and will be the first in its lineup to sport an OLED screen, following in the footsteps of recent iPad Pro models. That, along with global trends, is tipped to exact a toll on the iPad Mini 8's price, however.
Along with a handful of other devices, Apple is set to present its new iPad Mini later this month. The new tablet will replace 2024's iPad Mini 7 and, as has been extensively reported, will arrive with an OLED screen. That will come at quite the cost, it appears, however.
As Mark Gurman reports, Apple will launch its new iPad Mini toward the end of the month, featuring an OLED for the first time in Apple's compact tablet lineup. Unfortunately, it's said that the new OLED iPad Mini, which will be colloquially referred to as the iPad Mini 8, will be "considerably more expensive" than the last-gen model. The iPad Mini 7 debuted with a $599 MSRP, and Gurman reckons its successor could be priced at $799.
Most of Apple's lineup has seen price hikes over the past year, thanks to sky-high memory costs, so the iPad Mini 8 being pricier than its predecessor isn't surprising, and cannot also be entirely chalked up to the switch from LCD to OLED.
Display and pricing aside, the iPad Mini 8 is expected to arrive with some hardware improvements as well. It's tipped to be powered by the impressive A20 Pro on the new iPhone 18 Pro phones, and even at $799 would be the cheapest device with that chipset. Until Apple releases a second-gen MacBook Neo, at least. A reworked speaker system and new front-facing camera location are also mooted.
