Namibian basketball prospect Sage Kamwi will represent the country at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Africa Regional Youth Camp 2026 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from 21 to 24 October.
The Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) sent Kamwi off in Windhoek on Saturday, marking an important milestone in the young player’s sporting journey and a chance to showcase his abilities on the continental stage.
The elite development camp will bring together promising young basketball players from across Africa, giving them an opportunity to sharpen their skills under the guidance of FIBA and National Basketball Association (NBA) coaches.
Kamwi was selected for his basketball skills and leadership, making him Namibia’s sole representative at the camp.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony, NBF secretary general Titus Mwahafa said Kamwi’s selection reflected his discipline, talent and commitment to the sport.
“This selection is a profound testament to Sage’s relentless discipline, skill, basketball IQ, and work ethic,” Mwahafa said.
He noted that 21 national federations were invited to send their best young players to Abidjan, describing the camp as an important platform for identifying emerging talent.
He encouraged Kamwi to show coachability, teamwork, and character while making the most of the chance to learn from experienced international coaches.
Kamwi’s journey into basketball began relatively recently, having initially pursued parkour, a discipline that involves navigating obstacles through running, jumping and climbing.
His father, Leonard Kamwi, said his son’s athletic background helped him stand out when he began playing basketball at St George’s last year.
He added that his son’s progress had opened the family’s eyes to the opportunities available to young athletes, urging parents to support their children’s sporting ambitions.
Sage currently plays for Unam Cadets, who are competing in the first division final. Promotion to the Premier League next season would mark another significant step in his developing basketball career.
