KOTA BARU: Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) is leaving it to the Perikatan Nasional leadership to decide how many seats the party will contest in next month's Melaka election.
Wawasan president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the party, as a PN component, would accept whatever decision was made.
"As part of PN, we leave it to the PN chairman (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar), who has mandated his secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, to handle discussions on seat allocation.
"There should not be too many voices. Whatever is decided, we will accept it. We will wait for the PN secretary-general to announce how many seats we will contest," he told a press conference here.
Yesterday, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that seat negotiations with Pas for the Melaka state election had been finalised.
He said BN would contest 21 state seats, while Pas and its allies would contest seven.
On the logo to be used in the Melaka election, Hamzah said Wawasan was considering contesting under the PN logo.
"If possible, we want to use the PN logo. That is why, when we received the letter from the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS), we immediately took the matter to court.
"This shows that we believe PN is the symbol that represents all of us as component parties in the coalition.
"However, discussions are still ongoing to determine the best option," he said.
