Kohima, Oct 13: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has demanded an independent investigation into an alleged Indian Army drone strike on Langkho village in the Naga Self-Administered Zone (NSAZ) on October 3, which reportedly injured two civilians, including a minor girl, and caused extensive property damage.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the federation condemned the reported incident and called for an impartial and credible probe to establish the facts, identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
The NSF said the alleged strike in a civilian-populated area raised serious concerns over the protection of civilians during military operations. It urged the authorities to provide a clear and transparent account of the incident, citing the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution under international humanitarian law.
The federation also renewed its demand for the revocation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), opposing its continued enforcement across the Naga homeland. It said the Ministry of Home Affairs had extended the Act with effect from October 1, 2026.
Describing the continued imposition of AFSPA as a threat to democratic accountability and human dignity, the NSF alleged that the law had contributed to fear, insecurity and alienation among the Naga people.
The federation called on the Centre to revoke AFSPA, end military actions that put civilians at risk and pursue meaningful political engagement while respecting human rights. It also sought effective mechanisms to investigate alleged violations and hold those responsible accountable.
The NSF further urged international human rights organisations and relevant independent bodies to examine the reported Langkho incident and the broader implications of prolonged militarisation in the Naga homeland.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice, human rights and democratic principles, the federation said the Naga people deserved to live in peace, security and dignity.
