PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – The local government unit (LGU) of Sumisip in Basilan province has condemned the series of deadly armed attacks targeting troops of the Philippine Army’s 45th Infantry Battalion (45th IB).
In a statement on Monday evening, the Sumisip LGU denounced the two recent ambush incidents, emphasizing that such acts threaten the peace and security of communities across the province.
The attacks occurred in two separate incidents earlier this month: first on October 5 while 45IB troops were passing through Barangay Badja in Tipo-Tipo town, and on October 8 in Barangay Sabong, Lamitan City.

Thirteen soldiers were wounded in the October 5 ambush. In the October 8 attack, a soldier was killed, and 11 others were wounded, including two civilians from Barangay Bacung in Sumisip town.
“We denounce these acts of violence that put lives at risk and threaten the safety and security of our communities. The wounding of civilians is a serious concern, as our people should never bear the consequences of armed violence,” the LGU statement read.
“There is no place for this kind of violence in our province. Every life matters, whether civilian or uniformed personnel. Our communities deserve peace, security, and the opportunity to live without fear,” the local government added.
The Sumisip LGU expressed its solidarity with the Philippine Army, particularly the wounded military personnel and their families, while offering prayers for the quick recovery of the injured civilians and affected residents.
