The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspects over alleged armed robbery, recovered stolen mobile phones and detained another suspect in connection with the burglary of a Jumia collection centre in Ogun State.
The command has also arrested a suspect over the killing of four people during a violent clash between rival groups at Alapa village, along Toro Road, Ile-Ife.
The arrests were disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, during a press briefing with journalists at the police headquarters on Monday.
Zungura said the arrests formed part of ongoing investigations into armed robbery, burglary, stealing and a deadly dispute reportedly linked to the control of a cocoa farm in Osun State.
According to the command, operatives of the Swift Action Squad (SAS) arrested Olaiya Sunday, 27, on September 24, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at Akinlalu, in the Ipetumodu area, along the Ile-Ife-Ibadan Expressway. He was riding an unregistered red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with another person, who escaped.
Two people arrived at the scene while officers were questioning the rider and identified him and his passenger as the men who allegedly robbed them of an unregistered ash-coloured TVS motorcycle and three mobile phones.
The suspects reportedly fled into the bush when identified, but officers, working with the complainants, arrested Olaiya.
The case was subsequently transferred to the command’s Anti-Robbery Section for further investigation. During interrogation, Olaiya allegedly admitted involvement in a planned robbery, claiming that five people participated in the operation.
He reportedly said they travelled from Oje Igosun in Ibadan, Oyo State, on two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles before targeting their victims in Ile-Ife.
The police said the suspects allegedly accused their victims of belonging to an unlawful society before dispossessing them of their belongings, including an iPhone 13, an iPhone 11, an Infinix Smart 10 and the TVS motorcycle.
The police said the suspect reportedly told investigators that the group had operated in Ibadan, Osun and Lagos states and had robbed several people.
The suspects allegedly sold stolen motorcycles to a man identified as Seriki in the Mokola area of Ibadan, while stolen phones were reportedly sold to a man known as Oshodi in Lagos.
Akintunde Mariam, 28, described as the girlfriend of one of the suspects, was also arrested over allegations that she used her National Identification Number (NIN) to register SIM cards for the robbery suspects.
On October 14, 2026, detectives from the Anti-Robbery Section travelled to Oyo State, where two suspects, Agoro Kudus, 27, and Timileyin Idowu, 23, who had been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command’s Anti-Cultism Section, were handed over to the Osun Command.
Later that day, at about 7 p.m., police arrested Adekunle Ibrahim, 30, also known as Oshodi, and Temitope Opeyemi, 29, in the Yemetu area of Ibadan.
Five mobile phones allegedly stolen in Osun State were recovered, including an iPhone 13, an iPhone 11, an Infinix Smart 10, an Infinix Smart 8 and an Itel Android phone.
The police said efforts were ongoing to recover the stolen motorcycle and other property.
In a separate case, the command said its operatives arrested 32-year-old Adeosun Gbenga in Ifo, Ogun State, on October 10, 2026, over alleged conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The case followed a complaint that a Jumia collection centre in Ifo was burgled on August 22, 2026, with several phones and electronic gadgets reportedly stolen.
Detectives attached to the Cybercrime Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, reportedly recovered an iPhone 13, five Android phones, a tablet, two headsets, two watches and a charger.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, while efforts were being made to arrest other suspects.
The police added that Adeosun had previously been remanded in a correctional centre over a related offence.
Meanwhile, the command confirmed the arrest of Oniyefa Olayemi in connection with the killing of four people during a violent clash between rival groups at Alapa village, along Toro Road, Ile-Ife.
The police said a complainant from Odo Ogbe, Ile-Ife, reported the incident at the Police B Division, Modakeke, at about 8:30 a.m. on October 5, 2026.
According to the report, about 10 armed men invaded the village between October 4 and 5 and opened fire, killing the complainant’s mother, Toyin Olagbaju, 40.
Preliminary police findings indicated that the violence stemmed from a dispute between two rival groups allegedly led by Awosunle Tosin, who is still at large, and Emmanuel Agunbiade, also known as Abore, over control of a large cocoa farm in Alapa village.
The confrontation resulted in multiple casualties. Detectives from the Homicide Section visited the scene and recovered two Dane guns, a small axe, 11 expended cartridges, one live cartridge, three empty AK-47 rifle ammunition shells, two empty LAR rifle ammunition shells, one empty assault rifle ammunition shell and locally made charms.
The deceased persons identified by the police were Toyin Olagbaju, Emmanuel Agunbiade, also known as Abore, Akeem, and Ademola, also known as Small.
Zungura said Oniyefa was assisting investigators, while efforts were being intensified to arrest other fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons linked to the incident.
The command warned individuals and groups against violence, illegal firearms and taking the law into their own hands over land disputes or other disagreements.
It urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful channels and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
