Kilwinning residents without water for over 24 hours amid ‘complex’ main repair

Households in Kilwinning have been left without water for over 24 hours due to a burst main.

Scottish Water is working to repair the burst water main, which has left some residents without supplies since 10am on Saturday.

A bottled water collection point has been set up in the town, while tankers have been drafted in to bring extra water into the local network.

Scottish Water said that “significant” progress has been made, but the repair has proven more complex than expected.

Specialists are investigating a potential secondary issue within the network that may also be affecting supplies.

No timeline has been provided for when the repair and additional work will be completed.

One resident told STV News that she has been without running water since 10am on Saturday, and that local supermarkets are sold out of bottled water.

She said: “The concern is for the elderly and families with young children. Are they getting water delivered to them, and are they being kept up to date with what’s happening?

“12 hours with no running water, it’s an absolute disgrace. We have a dog and two cats at home, who need water. We can’t use the shower or flush the toilet. We need to boil the kettle for hot water to be able to wash. It’s simply not good enough.”

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to repair this burst water main and fully restore normal service to all affected customers.

“We appreciate that this disruption is frustrating and apologise for the ongoing inconvenience.”
