Overview:
Clairic extracts structured data, calculates values, and provides confidence signals for better document processing.
Cloudflare reports 69% less processing time and 49% lower pipeline costs in one early test.
Businesses still need accuracy checks, clear validation rules, and human review for critical decisions.
AI can read a long document in seconds, but pulling out accurate data can still be difficult. A general model might return the wrong date, miss a key amount, or invent a value that isn’t in the source. Cloudflare plans to address this gap with Clairic, a new class of AI models that turn text and images into clean, structured data. This can help businesses collect useful facts quickly, at a lower cost, and with fewer mistakes.
How Clairic Takes a Different Approach
Cloudflare announced Clairic on October 19, 2026, with access through Workers AI in preview. A general large language model (LLM) writes text in response to a prompt. Clairic sticks to specific jobs like data extraction, calculations, estimates, and forecasts.
For example, an invoice lists a price of USD 649 and tax of USD 52.10. Clairic can pull out both amounts and work out the total of USD 701.10. Dates, names, and other facts are returned in fixed formats, so software can use the results without cleaning up a long AI reply.
Clear Results from Messy Documents
Businesses deal with emails, receipts, invoices, reports, and customer complaints, and these rarely follow a single format. Manual review is slow and expensive. Clairic can turn such content into structured fields that a database or business tool can use directly.
A customer might email about a cracked screen on an order. A company can ask the model to find the damage type, delivery date, order amount, and tracking number. If the source has no tracking number, Clairic can return a null value instead of making one up. It can also give confidence estimates and source text offsets, so a system can check where a result came from. Those signals help with review, but they don’t guarantee every answer is right.

Early Results Point to Lower Costs
Cloudflare shared an early test of a workflow using Clairic for extraction and Clef for classification. The whole process took 19.3 seconds, compared with 61.7 seconds for an approach built on a general LLM, which is about 69% less time. Cloudflare also reported a 49% cut in total pipeline cost.
The test suggests small, focused models can handle routine tasks faster than a large model that has to write out a full response. Still, those figures come from one specific workflow. Document quality, field types, request volume, and validation needs can all change the outcome.
Cloudflare also tried Clairic on 21 daily forecasts of passenger screening counts at US airports. Average forecast error was 3.3%, and 17 of the 21 actual values were within the predicted 80% intervals. This marks an early sign of forecasting value, though unusual holiday demand remained a challenge.
How Clairic Fits with Other AI Models
Clairic is part of Cloudflare’s broader push to build models for specific jobs. The company announced Clef and Clef-flash on October 1, 2026, for tasks like classification and fixed-choice decisions. Clairic deals in values, while Clef deals in decisions. General LLMs still have a place when a task needs a detailed summary, an explanation, or a natural-sounding response.
This split lets companies pick the right model for each step. A system might use Clairic to extract invoice data, ordinary code to verify totals, Clef to decide whether a claim needs review, and a general LLM to explain the result to a customer.
What Businesses Should Check Before Use
Clairic is still in preview, so companies should test it on real documents before relying on it for critical work. Field accuracy, response time, total cost, usage limits, and data privacy rules all need checking. Confidence scores can flag uncertain results, but business rules and human review still matter for high-value claims or financial records.
Complex calculations need care too. Standard code is a safer way to verify totals and long chains of arithmetic. Forecasts should be tested against real historical data, especially when rare events can skew results. Cloudflare has said open model weights are planned, but that doesn’t mean they’re available yet.

A More Practical Way to Use AI
Clairic points to a useful shift in AI design: Not every task needs a model that writes long answers. Many business processes just need exact fields, clear data types, and a dependable way to flag missing facts. A focused model can meet those needs and trim the extra work built up around a general LLM.
For companies with lots of documents, the best next step is a small test comparing Clairic with the current process on accuracy, speed and total cost. The payoff will come not from model size, but from how well the model fits the task and how carefully the results get checked.
