The Directorate of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) says it is targeting 40 million votes for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general elections.
Dr Betta Edu, Co-Chair of the directorate, disclosed this on Thursday in Kaduna during a courtesy visit to the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe.
Edu said the directorate would intensify grassroots mobilisation and engage women directly to secure support for the re-election of Tinubu and Shettima.
She said the country had passed through the difficult phase of economic reforms and was approaching a period of prosperity.
“We have gone through the reform phase already. Now it is time for prosperity. We are already at the gate of prosperity once President Tinubu is re-elected,” she said.
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation said the directorate would adopt a grassroots-oriented campaign strategy to achieve its target.
According to her, the strategy will involve engaging women in markets, communities and households to understand their concerns and communicate the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
She said the mobilisation effort would focus on persuasion and direct interaction with voters rather than merely gathering large crowds at campaign rallies.
Edu urged APC women leaders and supporters in Kaduna to intensify door-to-door campaigns and peaceful engagement with residents ahead of the 2027 elections.
She emphasised the need to avoid intimidation and coercion in the mobilisation process.
The PCC official commended Gov. Uba Sani for his administration’s efforts in infrastructure development and social service delivery, particularly road construction, public transportation and the revitalisation of primary healthcare facilities.
She also praised Balarabe for breaking political barriers as the first elected female deputy governor in Northwest Nigeria.
Responding, Balarabe said the Kaduna State Government was working with relevant stakeholders to ensure a successful flag-off of the APC presidential campaign in the state.
She said the Local Organising Committee (LOC), which she chairs, had held several meetings to coordinate preparations for the event.
According to her, Kaduna’s strategic position in Northern Nigeria places a significant responsibility on the state to demonstrate its organisational capacity in hosting the campaign.
“We try as much as possible to take any assignment given to us seriously,” she said.
The deputy governor urged members of the PCC Women Mobilisation Directorate to work closely with the LOC and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the event.
She also called on the women to sustain their mobilisation efforts beyond the campaign flag-off and translate political support into votes in 2027.
Balarabe said women had an important role to play in securing victory for Tinubu and Shettima, urging them to take the message of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda directly to women at the grassroots.
She expressed confidence that sustained mobilisation and unity among women would strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects in Kaduna and other parts of the country.
The visit was part of activities to prepare for the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna and strengthen grassroots support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
