Imagine holding onto a baseball ticket that you can use at any time, only to get shafted when your favourite team finally makes it to the World Series.
Angry Milwaukee Brewers fans are feeling that way after purchasing a “Timeless Ticket” for $1,000 US in 2015, only to be assigned less-than-desirable seats now that the team has reached the Fall Classic.
This sounds like one of those promotions that seemed like a good idea at the time, only to come back and strike out.
In 2015, the Brewers offered a promotion under which up to 1,000 fans who paid $1,000 would receive a “Timeless Ticket” that could be used at any future game.
Well, that time has finally come. With the Brewers set to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series starting Friday in Milwaukee, many patient fans who have held onto their precious tickets for more than a decade are hoping for good seats.
That has not happened.
Brewers fans vent about seat they were given
Two Brewers fans, Kevin and Kyle Deaton, told TMJ4.com that they were offered seats on the terrace level or standing-room-only options.
“When you promise somebody the best seat available, and you give them pretty much the worst seats that you have in the whole stadium, I would say, no. They’re not honouring it,” Kyle Deaton told TMJ4.com.
The tickets were supposed to be “redeemed for the best available seat locations, subject to ticket availability at the time of redemption.”
Other fans are having the same experience and are looking for seat upgrades.
Milwaukee Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger issued a statement addressing the concerns.
“We subsequently erred in our internal communications on the logistics of fulfilling the requests. While we were able to accommodate all with seats, we received feedback from some that they were unhappy with their seat locations. Clearly, even with extraordinary limitations on available seats, we did not live up to the spirit of the program and we have been working through a resolution,” Schlesinger said in the statement.
To try to make things right, the team now says fans who have redeemed their tickets for less-than-desirable World Series seats can use those tickets to attend the game while retaining their “Timeless Tickets” for a future game.
The Brewers last played in the World Series in 1982, when they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. More than four decades later, some long-suffering fans say they are already feeling let down by their team.
