By Zoila Palma: Thousands of students and teachers took to the streets of Athens, Greece, on Wednesday, demanding affordable student housing and increased government investment in education.
Similar demonstrations were held in other Greek cities, including Thessaloniki and Patras, as concerns over the rising cost of living and deteriorating school conditions fueled public protests, AP reports.
Demonstrators carried signs highlighting the financial challenges facing students, with one banner reading, “From Greece to France, give money to education.” Others displayed messages questioning how young people could afford both their education and basic living expenses.
The demonstrations come as protests over housing affordability, rising fuel costs and education funding spread across several European countries, including France, Italy and Albania.
