A conference focused on artificial intelligence, data protection, cybersecurity and the future of Papua New Guinea’s digital laws and business is underway at APEC House in Port Moresby.
The International Training Institute’s (ITI) Artificial intelligence (AI) Data Protection and Cybersecurity: Future of PNG Digital Laws and Business Conference 2026 is being held under the theme, “Building a Secure, Trusted and AI-Ready Digital Papua New Guinea.”
The conference aims to strengthen national dialogue on digital governance, data protection, cybersecurity, regulatory readiness and the adoption of artificial intelligence as Papua New Guinea continues to embrace digital technologies.
Organisers said the country’s laws must keep pace with technological innovation as PNG advances its digital transformation.
ITI Chairman and Co-founder Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval, in his opening remarks, said data was at the centre of discussions surrounding AI and technological development.
“Today we come together to discuss the most significant technology development of our time. The growth and importance of data and intelligent agents, artificial intelligence, how we can manage the opportunities and changes that it presents for us and the challenges that it presents to us,” he said.
Sentheyval said data had become one of the most valuable resources in the modern world, influencing government policy, business decision-making and the way individuals communicate, learn and interact with technology.
“Without reliable data, decisions are often based on assumptions. With accuracy and proper analysis of data, we can identify trends, measure performance and make informed decisions,” he said.
He added that raw data on its own had limited value, with its true value emerging when it was organised, processed and transformed into meaningful information.
Among those attending the conference are Papua New Guinea Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae, Lady Emeline Tufi Dadae, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Steven Matainaho, members of the media and invited guests.
