Agartala, October 15, 2026: Tripura has received 17 per cent less rainfall than its seasonal average during the 2026 Southwest Monsoon, which officially withdrew from the entire state on Wednesday, the Meteorological Centre, Agartala, announced.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state recorded 1,160.1 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season against the normal average of 1,391.1 mm, leaving a shortfall of 231 mm.
The weather department reported that West Tripura recorded the highest single-day rainfall of the season, at 229.2 mm. However, the overall rainfall received across the state remained below the long-term seasonal average.
The monsoon’s withdrawal on October 15 was close to the normal schedule. A similar pattern was observed last year, when the Southwest Monsoon retreated from the entire state on October 14, 2025.
The IMD further stated that dry weather prevailed throughout Tripura during the 24 hours preceding the announcement, indicating a transition towards predominantly dry conditions following the end of the monsoon season.
With the seasonal rains now withdrawn, residents can expect a shift in weather patterns in the coming days. The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain attentive to subsequent weather bulletins for updates on changing conditions.
The 17 per cent rainfall deficit marks the key feature of this year’s monsoon in Tripura, as the state concludes the season with precipitation considerably below its normal level.
