Manchester City made it seven wins from their first seven Premier League matches to start the 2026-27 season with their 3-2 win over Ipswich Town yesterday. Enzo Maresca’s side had to fight all the way against Gary O’Neil’s side but in the end, City picked up another three points. In the process, Enzo Maresca set a new Premier League record. That is impressive in itself but what is clear is that City are winning matches but there is plenty of room for Enzo Maresca’s team to improve and grow.
Enzo Maresca has set a new Premier League record after his team’s win over Ipswich Town.
The Enzo Maresca era at Manchester City has gotten off to an exciting start. Maresca’s team has won matches in a variety of manners and Maresca’s side has built tremendous spirit and character. Yesterday’s win over Ipswich Town was Manchester City’s seventh consecutive win to start the 2026-27 season. Yesterday’s win was a record-breaking one for the Manchester City manager.
Enzo Maresca has become the first manager in Premier League history to oversee seven straight wins to start his managerial reign. Maresca has surpassed the previous record of six consecutive wins to start a managerial reign in the Premier League. That record was shared by Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Those three managers achieved that feat as the managers of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Speaking after his team’s seventh straight Premier League win, Enzo Maresca was happy with the start his team and made to their Premier League campaign. Also, Maresca said he was thrilled with day-to-day improvements his team was making. He explained: “First of all, I am very happy because it’s a matter of winning games in this business. We were able to win seven in a row and what made me very happy was day-by-day with the players, the way they are working and how I can see them improving.”
“Today I thought we controlled the game, created chances and were good off the ball. We are doing well and I think that’s the most important thing.“
Despite their strong start to the Premier League season, there is plenty of room to grow in this Manchester City side.
Enzo Maresca’s side has quickly discovered the art of winning matches. Across their seven-match winning run in the Premier League, they have won in a variety of ways. However, there is much more exciting possibility to consider. That is how much improvement is still to come from Enzo Maresca’s side.
This City side is nowhere near the finished product. Far from it. They do leave their opponents in matches as we saw yesterday against Ipswich Town. The more they play together, this side of their game should improve. That is where Manchester City’s growth will come. The more they play together the better they will get. That is the scary aspect of this City side for their rivals. They are know where near their best just yet. That makes their start to their Premier League campaign that bit more exciting.
