- Up to 18 + billion Baht in losses so far for Industrial Sector due to Flooding
Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said data from the ministry’s Crisis Management Center (CMC), as of 3pm on October 13, showed that flooding has affected 4,635 businesses across 59 provinces, causing preliminary damage estimated at 18.21 billion baht, with Chonburi accounting for the overwhelming majority of losses.
Businesses in industrial estates accounted for 17.84569 billion baht of the losses, while those outside industrial estates suffered an estimated 359.94 million baht in damage.
Chonburi recorded the highest damage at 17.89667 billion baht. Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Rayong, Prachin Buri and Chonburi had the largest numbers of affected business establishments.
Those hit include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), industrial factories and community enterprises, putting pressure on businesses ranging from major industrial operations to smaller local operators.
- Widespread flooding across Thailand has heavily impacted the industrial sector, causing billions of baht in damages and disrupting supply chains. According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), more than 2,000 businesses across 14 provinces have suffered losses estimated at 6–7 billion baht, with major industrial zones like Amata City Chonburi experiencing severe floodwaters that forced dozens of factories to suspend operations. The Ministry of Industry separately reported over 4,500 affected establishments, while active flooding persists across 20 provinces.
The FTI is urging the government to provide urgent financial aid for affected small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alongside support for environmental safety and industrial waste management. Additionally, the FTI advised factories—especially those in flood-prone southern Thailand—to strengthen their early warning systems and improve business continuity plans to prepare for impending heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile Thailand’s Industrial Sentiment Index rose to 90.7 in September 2026, boosted by lower electricity tariffs, seasonal demand, and growth in EVs and AI infrastructure. However, performance was tempered by regional flooding, high fuel and freight costs, and import competition. The three-month confidence index also climbed to 97.7 on expectations of post-flood repairs and government stimulus. To sustain momentum, the FTI urges faster flood warnings and insurance payouts, energy incentives, and policies favoring locally made goods.
Government Unveils ‘Baan Kon La Lang Plus’ Housing Loan Scheme with Interest Starting at 2.60 Percent
The Thai Cabinet has approved the “Ban Khon La Lang PLUS” housing loan project proposed by the Ministry of Finance, featuring a total budget of 50 billion baht. Implemented by the Government Housing Bank, the scheme aims to help low- and medium-income citizens acquire their own homes by providing loans of up to 3 million baht per borrower with a maximum repayment period of 40 years.
The loan program supports properties priced up to 3 million baht for purchasing land with buildings or condominiums, constructing buildings, or buying properties on state land, along with necessary living equipment and facilities. The maximum loan repayment term is up to 40 years.
The Cabinet has approved the project to continuously assist the economy through the real estate sector and fulfill housing demands.
Interest rates vary depending on income and livelihood criteria, beginning at 2.60 percent per year for normal income criteria during the first and second years.
Eligible citizens can submit loan applications starting from October 15, 2026, until December 30, 2026, or until the project budget is fully utilized.
The Ministry of Finance estimates that the project will generate approximately 125 billion baht in economic circulation while supporting the construction sector and employment.
TAT Projects 10 billion Baht Economic Impact from 2026 Vegetarian Festival and Faith Tourism
The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects the 2026 Vegetarian Festival and southern Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival to drive over 10 billion baht in tourism revenue. Promoted as Faith Soul Tourism, the initiative aims to convert local cultural heritage and beliefs into sustainable economic growth across 10 key provinces.
Between October 9 and 18, 2026, the TAT forecasts over 1.32 million domestic visitor trips and approximately 10.14 billion baht in revenue. Bangkok is projected to generate the highest revenue at 6,710 million baht, followed by Phuket at 1,430 million baht and Surat Thani at 420 million baht.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaiboon stated that the agency aims to connect faith, culture, health, and local lifestyles to benefit restaurants, small operators, and local communities. Survey results from the Haduhodo Foundation indicate that 79 percent of Thai people are interested in participating in the festival despite challenges such as recent flooding and high living costs.
Phuket’s Vegetarian Festival, boasting a 201-year history and recognition as a cultural heritage item, remains a major highlight. Hotel occupancy in Phuket’s old town district has surged to approximately 80 percent, driven by traditional rituals including street processions and fire-walking ceremonies.
- The Cabinet has approved a 12.66-billion-baht water diversion project to boost water supplies for households, agriculture, industry, and tourism while supporting growth in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Managed by the Royal Irrigation Department over five fiscal years (2027–2031), the project aims to add roughly 60 million cubic metres of water to the Bang Phra Reservoir to meet Chonburi’s rising demand.
The infrastructure work will connect Rayong’s Prasae Reservoir to the Nong Kho and Bang Phra reservoirs in Chonburi through a new pumping station, a 70-kilometer pipeline, and upgrades to a 5.35-kilometer drainage canal. The department will coordinate annual water allocations dynamically based on regional supply and multi-sectoral needs.
Cabinet Approves Land Expropriation Across Four Provinces for High-Speed Rail Project
The Thai Cabinet approved in principle a draft royal decree to determine land areas for expropriation across parts of four provinces to advance the Bangkok-Nong Khai high-speed rail development project, Phase 2 spanning Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai.
The second phase of the high-speed rail project aligns with China’s One Belt One Road strategic initiative and connects rail transport from China through Laos to Thailand. The project aims to enhance national competitiveness, reduce travel time and vehicle expenses, and ensure safe and convenient transportation along a 357.12-kilometer stretch starting and ending at specific designated points.
The initial investment framework for the project totals approximately 256,403.48 million baht. This covers about 1,345 rai of land across 1,991 parcels and roughly 1,428 structures, resulting in an estimated land expropriation and property compensation cost of 12,418.61 million baht, alongside civil construction and supervision costs.
The expropriation decree covers specific districts within Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai provinces, remaining in force for five years with an initial survey requirement within 180 days. The State Railway of Thailand will propose annual budget plans to the Budget Bureau once the royal decree takes effect.
- Thailand’s State Audit Office (SAO) has identified major compliance and management issues at Thai PBS, including direct-award contracts for the news program #ข่าวเจาะย่อโลก over nine years without competitive bidding, which auditors say breached procurement laws. SAO also flagged around 85 million baht in presenter and guest payments that lacked clear legal regulations, as well as executives receiving monthly car allowances while using shared organizational vehicles—a matter still under final review.
Additionally, auditors criticized Thai PBS for weak audience analysis, frequently changing performance metrics, and a lack of centralized data systems linking budgets to real social impact. In response, Thai PBS denied any corruption or financial harm, maintaining that its commissioning practices and guest allowances were lawful, while committing to digital system upgrades to improve operational transparency.
Meanwhile Thai PBS defended its expenditures following scrutiny from the SAO, emphasizing that its operational responsibilities have expanded tenfold since 2008 while its annual budget has remained capped at 2 billion baht. Broadcaster executives explained that nearly half of its workforce produces diverse programming—including content for children, seniors, and people with disabilities—and asserted that guest travel allowances complied with historical transitional regulations. Addressing procedural concerns, Thai PBS criticized the audit for lacking proper closing meetings and opportunities to clarify findings before public conclusions were made, while committing to improving its internal performance measures moving forward.
- The SET Index closed at 1,575.88 points, up 4.14 points or 0.26%, with a trading value of 80,644.59 million baht. The index traded sideways but managed to close in positive territory—despite sharp declines in Asian markets the previous day—driven primarily by the energy and banking sectors. Buying interest returned to banking stocks after TISCO Financial Group (TISCO) reported earnings that met market expectations.
Meanwhile, most electronic component stocks rose due to speculation regarding strong projected growth for Q3/2026 earnings, particularly for CCET; however, DELTA declined, tracking the pullback seen in overseas technology stocks.
Regarding the outlook for the Thai stock market today, the index is expected to trade sideways as the long holiday approaches. Investors remain focused on Q3/2026 earnings releases, following Q2/2026 results that fell short of expectations. Support is estimated at 1,570 points, with resistance at 1,580 points.
- Yupapin Wangviwat, Chief Financial Officer of Gulf Energy Development (GULF), revealed that GULF has established a new subsidiary, Gulf Edge Data Center Company (GEDC), with a registered capital of 1 million baht to invest and hold shares in data center operations. Through GEDC, GULF will acquire a 70% stake in the GEDC01 project—a data center with a capacity of up to 100 megawatts—to support the surging demand for data storage and processing driven by artificial intelligence.
In addition to its existing projects under GSA Holdings, GULF is currently studying plans to develop a massive “Data Center Park” industrial estate with a total capacity of at least 1,000 megawatts. Backed by GULF’s expertise in energy supply, this ambitious project is expected to require hundreds of billons of baht in investment, with a final decision anticipated later this year.

World Bank, AIIB, and ADB Join Thailand to Revamp Chao Phraya Water Management Plan
The Thai government has partnered with international financial institutions, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), to discuss investment strategies for water management in the Chao Phraya river basin. This high-level collaboration aims to address long-standing flood and drought risks while boosting agricultural productivity and securing the long-term economic resilience of Thailand.
On October 14, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives hosted a high-level meeting involving international development partners such as the OPEC Fund for International Development, the European Investment Bank, the European Union, and the French Development Agency (AFD). Representatives from the Royal Irrigation Department, the Office of the National Water Resources, and the Public Debt Management Office also participated to coordinate project implementation.
Discussions focused on five core topics, including the Chao Phraya basin’s role in agricultural resilience, project readiness, master plan vision, community disaster preparedness, and European cooperation. Key presentations were delivered by officials including Permanent Secretary Raphiphat Chandarasrivongs, alongside representatives from the OPEC Fund, AIIB, GIZ, and AFD, linking Thailand’s water management plans with foreign funding and technical expertise.
By improving water infrastructure and management systems, the government seeks to minimize disaster damage, increase production stability, and support farmers in better planning their cultivation. Ultimately, the collaboration serves as a platform to drive investments under the Chao Phraya basin master plan to ensure water security, reduce community vulnerability, and achieve sustainable agricultural growth.
TISCO Group Reports Strong 5.7% Growth with 5,302 Million Baht Net Profit for First Nine Months of 2026
TISCO Financial Group Public Company Limited has announced its financial performance for the first nine months of 2026, recording a net profit of 5,302 million baht, which represents a 5.7% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. For the third quarter of 2026, the net profit stood at 1,805 million baht, reflecting a 4.3% growth year-on-year. The positive performance was driven by revenue growth across all core business sectors alongside prudent risk management and asset quality maintenance.
Group Chief Executive Sakchai Peechapat noted that the Thai economy in the third quarter of 2026 experienced a gradual recovery supported by exports, domestic consumption from the “Thai Chuay Thai Plus” measure, and tourism. TISCO achieved a nine-month return on average equity (ROAE) of 16.4%, while maintaining strong asset quality with a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of 2.0% and an NPL Coverage Ratio of 192.5%. Total loans stood at 238,493 million baht as of September 30, 2026, marking a 1.2% growth from the end of 2025.
The financial expansion was supported by a 5.2% increase in net interest income and a 2.7% rise in non-interest income. Wealth management, capital market businesses, and the corporate and new car hire purchase loan segments—particularly electric vehicles (EVs)—expanded well. Furthermore, TISCO extended assistance to clients affected by recent flooding through debt restructuring and temporary payment reductions.

He affirmed that these technical adjustments have no substantive impact on the motion’s content or merits.
Suriya defends 8 billion baht EV rice harvester procurement plan, citing long-term value
Suriya Theruptrangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has defended the ministry’s plan to request an 8 billion baht budget from a loan decree to procure 500 electric vehicle (EV) rice tractors. Speaking at Government House on October 14, Suriya addressed criticisms regarding the high cost, asserting that the initiative will help farmers currently facing hardship from diesel tractor usage.
Addressing observations that market EV prices may be significantly lower than the project’s projected figures, Suriya drew a parallel to his previous tenure as Minister of Transport when transitioning Bangkok Mass Transit Authority buses from diesel to EV involved higher initial costs that ultimately proved beneficial.
Suriya explained that while the EV tractors may appear more expensive at first glance, avoiding fuel costs over a 14-year operational lifespan will yield savings exceeding 10 billion baht. He emphasized that the project includes comprehensive comparative details demonstrating its overall advantages.
The proposal will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance’s screening committee, with the review process expected to take about two weeks. Suriya expressed confidence that the project is well-documented with comparative tables and that the ministry is fully prepared to provide explanations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow stated that the establishment of a Chinese-backed airport in Laos, located approximately 50 kilometers from the Thai border, is not a cause for concern and currently poses no impact on Thailand.
Speaking at Government House on October 14, 2026, Sihasak explained that the Ban Khen airport project is a bilateral cooperation initiative between China and Laos. He noted that during his previous visit to Laos, the matter was not raised because it is considered an internal affair.
Addressing potential national security implications given the close proximity, Sihasak suggested that the construction might not be as people perceive it, emphasizing the need to monitor the situation while noting that Laos would likely inform Thailand if regional security issues arose.
Cabinet Postpones Employee Welfare Fund Collection by Three Months to Support Employers and Workers
The Thai Cabinet has approved a three-month postponement for the collection of savings and contributions to the employee welfare fund, moving the start date from October 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. Deputy Government Spokesperson Captain Phatdarasim Thongsaluaykorn announced the decision following a cabinet meeting on October 14, 2026, after the Ministry of Labor proposed three related draft laws.
The delay aims to alleviate the financial burden on employers and employees facing economic uncertainty, particularly businesses impacted by floods between September 25 and 29. During this period, some operators had to halt or reduce operations while certain workers experienced income losses.
The postponement also considers broader challenges such as business expansion limits, energy cost fluctuations, trade tensions, and consumer purchasing power affecting production and export costs, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. The revised regulations maintain the original contribution rates, requiring employers and employees to each contribute 0.25 percent of wages from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2031, before increasing to 0.5 percent starting January 1, 2035.
Additionally, the implementation date for employee welfare criteria has been aligned with the new collection schedule to prevent legal discrepancies. While offering businesses time to recover liquidity and establish stability, the policy maintains the long-term goal of securing worker protections.
- Bloomberg has reported that a Casio watch—costing less than 2,000 baht—worn by Anutin has become a symbol of political power in Thailand, earning the moniker “Casio Connection.”
Anutin purchases the watches and has his name engraved on the back before gifting them to close associates, including cabinet ministers and key political figures, noting that “today, a watch costing just $60 may hold more significance than a Rolex worth hundreds of times more.”
- Bhumjai Thai MP Suchada “Idea” Zhang Thaensap and her husband, Taiyang Zhang, cancelled a press conference scheduled for October 14 to address questions surrounding their assets and business dealings. No reason or new date was given.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is investigating irregularities in the couple’s asset declarations, totalling nearly 1.98 billion baht. Separate allegations have also emerged concerning her husband’s possible links to online gambling and transnational scam operations. Suchada has denied the allegations, and no wrongdoing has been established.
- Meanwhile former MP Sirichok Sopha has called on the NACC to investigate the asset declarations and financial trails of Bhumjai Thai MP Suchada Zhang Thaensap and her husband, Taiyang Zhang. Sirichoke presented evidence showing that both held joint rights—worth 75 million baht—in an ultra-luxury condominium unit acquired in July 2023. This acquisition occurred 14 months before their official marriage registration in September 2024 and prior to Suchada taking a political position as Secretary to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
He highlighted that under Section 102 of the NACC Act, asset disclosure rules apply not only to legally married spouses but also to unmarried cohabitating couples. Furthermore, he urged the NACC to examine Taiyang’s involvement as an investor in the online gambling platform Shuffle.com, which announced a $2.5 million seed round in February 2024 while Suchada was serving in her political role, to ensure all assets and investments were properly disclosed.
- Chatchai Bangchuad, Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, confirmed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s legal team has officially submitted a petition for amnesty regarding political charges to the Social Harmony Promotion Committee. The matter has now been forwarded to a screening subcommittee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of Justice for review.
Chatchai declined to comment on whether Thaksin’s petition meets the eligibility criteria, stating that the case involves complex legal issues and must be compiled alongside other submissions. The review process follows a statutory 180-day timeframe, with provisions for up to two extensions if necessary.
- The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) distanced itself from controversial remarks made by Associate Professor Arnond Sakworawich, who called Social Security voters “low-quality” and predicted the fund’s collapse following the Progressive Social Security Team’s sweep of the October 11 election. While NIDA stated that it does not support comments undermining democratic participation, it stopped short of naming the lecturer or announcing specific disciplinary action.
Emphasizing that staff must respect individual rights and human dignity, NIDA referenced standard ethical procedures without detailing its next steps. The vague statement has drawn public skepticism, with many questioning whether the institute will hold the professor accountable.
- Thailand’s Appeal Court denied bail for human rights lawyer Anon Nampa and activist Sophon “Get” Surarittamrong in 12 Section 112 (lèse-majesté) cases. Citing severe penalties, existing sentences, and flight risk, the court upheld previous bail rejections despite defense arguments invoking constitutional rights, international covenants, and offers to wear electronic monitoring bracelets.
Both activists have been detained since late 2023. Although Sophon recently completed one sentence and received a royal pardon in another, he remains incarcerated alongside Anon pending their remaining appeals.
The 2026 IMF–World Bank Meetings
Thailand, IMF, and World Bank Launch Bangkok Blueprint to Combat Cyber Scams
The Bank of Thailand, alongside the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, has launched the Bangkok Blueprint during the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group annual governors’ meetings. This new strategic framework aims to help countries prevent, detect, and respond to escalating digital financial fraud and cross-border cyber criminal networks.
Interpol has classified such cybercrimes as one of the world’s most severe threats, comparable to drug trafficking and money laundering. Digital financial fraud increasingly exploits social media, digital platforms, e-commerce, and telecommunications networks, creating massive challenges that no single country can resolve alone.
The Bangkok Blueprint establishes five core pillars and 12 key considerations designed to foster public-private and cross-border cooperation. These pillars focus on strategic and legal foundations, strengthening the fraud-mitigation life cycle, leveraging existing risk-management frameworks, expanding coordination, and enhancing consumer protection.
Key officials emphasized the importance of this global strategy. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas noted that connected digital financial systems require equally connected responses, while Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn highlighted the initiative’s role in securing a safe digital financial future for everyone.
- The framework features 12 key considerations across five pillars aimed at strengthening financial systems against fraud, improving cross-border cooperation, and building public trust in digital finance.
Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Thailand, delivered the opening remarks at the launch event. Meanwhile, Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Vitai Ratanakorn outlined the new strategic framework designed to enhance financial security and international standards. Vitai confirmed that Thailand’s safeguards align with the new blueprint, featuring stricter customer verification, automated suspicious transaction detection, and limits on high-risk transfers. The BOT and the Ministry of Finance aim to expand cross-border collaboration and strengthen regulatory frameworks to ensure safer digital financial ecosystem.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that worsening cyber fraud is undermining trust in digital finance and could limit access to financial services. Speaking in Bangkok, she called for stronger cyber risk oversight and international cooperation as AI adds to the challenges. Georgieva said people need confidence that their identity and financial information are secure before using digital financial services. She urged countries and institutions to coordinate measures to prevent and respond to fraud.
- At the World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok on October 14, PM’s Office Minister Paradorn Prissananantakul announced that Thailand plans to invest roughly US$8 billion in long-term water management for the Chao Phraya River Basin. The initiative aims to safeguard key economic hubs, farmland, and Bangkok from recurring floods, which World Bank data shows cost the country about US$600 million annually and deter foreign investment.
To finance the project, the government will leverage public funds to attract private capital and development finance institutions, using East Water’s IFC-backed blue bond as a template. Paradorn emphasized that clear regulations and transparent project management are essential for investor confidence, concluding that “water security is economic security” and delaying action is no longer an option.
- Yesterday at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, Anutin Charnvirakul—Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior—delivered the opening remarks at the “CNN Global Perspectives: In Bangkok” forum. During his address, he expressed his deep gratitude to CNN for selecting Thailand as the host venue. He also noted, “As the lovely lady who spoke earlier mentioned, she had the chance to try Thai tea this morning; I hope she enjoyed it.”
“I would also like to recommend that you try Thai iced black coffee, known as O-Liang. Once you taste it, I guarantee you might forget about iced Americanos forever,” the Deputy Prime Minister remarked.
“CNN Global Perspectives: In Bangkok” marks the first time this event has been held in Asia, taking place in Bangkok alongside the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
In the evening, Anutin hosted a welcome dinner at the Santi Maitri Building, Government House, on the occasion of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. The event featured a special performance from Thailand “Nene Royal,” which created a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

Floods in Thailand
- Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the launch of the National Disaster Insurance scheme. During the event, he participated in a video conference with Chiang Mai Governor Thossapol Phuanudom and Phairin Maneewan, whose 54-year-old mother, Ketsarin Ta-sini, tragically passed away from flash floods in Chiang Mai’s Galyani Vadhana district on October 5.
Under the national policy covering floods, storms, and earthquakes, the victim’s family received a 2-million-baht compensation payout transferred live online during the ceremony. The Prime Minister personally verified the transaction via the video call, reminding the recipient to spend the financial aid carefully. The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected citizens, noting that emergency relief funding has already reached over 200,000 households—achieving faster disbursement rates compared to previous rounds.
- Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa announced the closure of three Prachin Buri factories—including Green Environment Technology and G.K.C. Recycle—over severe chemical and oil contamination in floodwaters, pledging strict prosecution regardless of owner influence.
Concurrently, authorities are investigating potential foreign nominee arrangements and sudden capital surges involving two prominent local families linked to the firms. The Anti-Money Laundering Office is auditing their finances, while the government considers asset seizures for illegal waste dumping.
- Thai authorities are investigating mass fish deaths and a rainbow-colored oil sheen in the Prachin Buri River, with laboratory test results expected within a week. Initial inspections near fish cages in Si Maha Phot and Kabin Buri districts revealed dissolved oxygen levels below 2 mg/L, suggesting severe oxygen depletion likely caused by floodwaters washing organic waste into the river. Meanwhile, officials consider a direct link between the downstream oil sheen and the fish deaths unlikely, though separate testing near an industrial waste landfill detected high petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations.
To identify the exact cause, authorities are analyzing water and fish samples for heavy metals—including mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and ammonia—while actively inspecting potential industrial pollution sources. In the meantime, Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana stated on October 14 that residents have been advised to avoid direct contact with affected sections of the river.
- The Royal Irrigation Department and Land Development Department are spraying 5,000 liters of microbial solution at Rangsit Canal in Pathum Thani to treat foul-smelling black water and foam caused by pumping stagnant, detergent-laden floodwaters into the Chao Phraya River. With dissolved oxygen levels dropping to 1.18–1.80 mg/L, the canal has been provisionally rated as Type 5, the lowest water quality category. Residents are advised to avoid contact as authorities conduct further tests for heavy metals and toxic compounds.
- Government Savings Bank has transferred 2.41 billion baht in flood relief to 306,384 households across 39 provinces, while flooding continues in 20 provinces and Bangkok, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).
Ongoing flooding affects 905,233 households, or about 2.45 million people, across 99 districts, 807 subdistricts and 6,071 villages, as well as Bangkok. Between September 16 and October 14, 2026, flooding affected 50 provinces and Bangkok, impacting about 1.48 million households, or 4.23 million people. Authorities reported 72 deaths so far.
General News
- The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released a weather forecast predicting heavy rainfall in parts of Thailand from October 14–16, 2026, particularly affecting the western regions of the North, Central, and Eastern areas. This rainfall is driven by a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China covering the North, Northeast, and the South China Sea, bringing easterly and southeasterly moisture-laden winds across the country and the Gulf of Thailand.
From October 17–20, 2026, rainfall is expected to decrease across upper Thailand, while the southern region will continue to experience persistent rain with heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas.
TMD also predicts that the 2026 winter season will start about a week later than average, running from mid-October 2026 through mid-February 2027. Overall conditions in upper Thailand will be milder than last year, with average minimum temperatures expected to range between 22.0–23.0°C—about 2°C higher than the normal average. The coldest weather is forecast between late December 2026 and early February 2027. Lowest temperatures are expected to reach 10–12°C in northernmost areas, while Bangkok and its surrounding provinces will see minimum temperatures around 18–21°C.
