Minister for Environment and Climate Change V.K. Rajiv handed over ₹4.75-crore welfare measures to 561 beneficiaries and inaugurated 10 new buildings built at the cost of ₹2.85 crore for various government departments at a function held here on Tuesday.
Addressing the function, Dr. Rajiv said steps had been taken to judiciously use the water available in the dams for irrigation and increasing agricultural productivity in Tenkasi district, where due steps were being taken to conserve nature.
A meeting with traders, owners of marriage halls and other stakeholders would be organised shortly to minimise the use of use-and-throw plastic products and encourage them to use degradable products.
“Since the district is located close to the Western Ghats, these initiatives will create a wildlife-friendly Tenkasi district,” he noted.
The Minister also said that steps had been taken to inaugurate the District Collectorate, for which the environmental clearance is yet to be obtained. The Public Works Department, without obtaining environmental clearance and consent to establish from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, has built this structure with over 20,000 square meter.
Mr. Rajiv handed over appointment orders to 11 persons who have been appointed in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
District Collector Ranjeet Singh, Sub-Collector, Tenkasi, Vaishnavi Paul, MP Rani Srikumar and District Revenue Officer M. Veerasamy were present.
