Traffic is extremely heavy at the Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border checkpoints for trucks exiting Bulgaria towards Türkiye, the Border Police report. Traffic is normal at all other border checkpoints and crossings along the country’s borders with Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Romania.
Drivers are advised to reduce their speed and keep a greater distance from other vehicles due to rain and wet road conditions on 16 October. The movement of Land Forces personnel and military equipment along the national road network is also continuing as part of a scheduled training exercise. However, the Ministry of Defence has not specified the routes or timings.
Over the past 24 hours, 18 people have been injured in 21 serious road traffic accidents across the country, according to Traffic Police. For the second consecutive day, no road fatalities have been reported in Bulgaria. Since the beginning of the month, 26 people have died in road accidents, while 430 have been injured.
