Ruaridh Mollica can’t be pinned down. Fresh off Clarkston, a one-act play set in a Costco, the Scottish actor and writer has sprinted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In VisionQuest, the WandaVision follow-up on Disney+, he plays Speed, who uses superhuman speed to save his allies and teammates. Out of the suit, he’s a pretty regular guy who likes pickles and the outdoors, and doesn’t mess around when it comes to his books. Ahead of the show’s release, we asked Mollica about mistakes, Google searches, and break-ups.
———
What’s the last thing that annoyed you?
I got 8 coat hangers all caught in each other.
What’s the most expensive mistake you’ve made?
Last week on set, during a stunt, I accidentally crashed a shopping trolley into the ARRI camera. Thankfully, just the filter broke and it made for an epic cut point, but I thought I was going to get sent home.
What’s the last thing you Googled?
There’s this wonderful picture of Simon Cowell on The X Factor falling backwards in his chair with his hand up. It was that.
What’s something in your home you’d never get rid of?
My books.
What’s your favorite flavor?
Briny. Like pickles, and olives, and martinis.
What’s the last movie you saw?
The Odyssey!
What’s something you pretend not to care about?
When the seaweed touches my foot in the ocean.
What’s the last thing you ordered?
Fish and chips.
How do you fall asleep?
Reading a book.
Who was the last person you met?
A fisherman in the Scottish Highlands called Mungo.
What’s the best decision you made today?
To go on a walk in the forest.
How do you handle a break-up?
With care.
How do you know it’s time to leave a party?
You just know, it’s an instinct.
How do you kill an hour?
Chatting with people.
What gives you confidence?
Trust.
