BRAC Bank conducted a fire safety and emergency evacuation drill at its head office in collaboration with the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department to strengthen workplace safety and emergency preparedness.
Held on 14 October, 2026, the routine exercise tested employees' responses to fire-related emergencies and reinforced the bank's safety protocols, according to the press release.
When the alarm sounded during the workday, employees promptly left their workstations and proceeded in an orderly manner to designated assembly points.
They also participated in practical fire simulation exercises led by fire service officials, highlighting the importance of preparedness for workplace fire hazards in urban settings.
The drill tested individual and team responses through fire simulations, alarm activation and evacuation announcements, followed by a mass evacuation and coordinated assembly at designated safe zones.
The bank's in-house fire safety team conducted emergency search-and-rescue exercises. Participants also observed demonstrations of first aid and rapid evacuation for hospital treatment.
Fire service rescuers demonstrated the use of a turntable ladder for emergency search-and-rescue operations.
Employees received hands-on training in using firefighting equipment and following safety procedures during emergencies.
The exercise concluded with a debriefing session reviewing the firefighting techniques and evacuation procedures practised during the drill.
Md Shaheen Iqbal CFA, additional managing director and head of wholesale banking, said, "Drills like these play a crucial role in saving lives, and we conduct such exercises regularly across all our premises nationwide to ensure that our colleagues are always prepared. As a compliant and values-driven organisation, we adhere to all safety regulations related to fire safety and other emergencies."
Major General Md Amin Akbar (retd), head of general services at BRAC Bank, was also present.
BRAC Bank said it remained committed to employees' health, safety and overall wellbeing. Regular drills, ongoing training and a secure working environment were intended to help employees respond safely and effectively to emergencies.
