ⓘ Insta360
Insta360's new wireless microphone has an E Ink display like the Insta360 Mic Pro. However, its cheaper price tag comes with the loss of onboard storage. Thankfully, users get a microSD card slot and longer battery life.
Insta360 is expanding its wireless microphone options with a new model. The manufacturer already sells the affordable Insta360 Mic Air and the more premium Insta360 Mic Pro which has a customizable color E Ink display. Now, it is adding the Insta360 Mic which sits in between the aforementioned models.
The new Insta360 Mic has a customizable E Ink display like the pro model, allowing users to upload a channel logo, guest name, emoji, or number on the transmitter. The screen is a 1.22-inch color E Ink panel with a 240 × 208 resolution, the same as that of the Mic Pro (available on Amazon for $99.99).
What sets apart the Insta360 Mic from the Insta360 Mic Pro is the lack of onboard storage on the former. Unlike the pro model which has 32GB of onboard storage, the standard Insta360 Mic has a microSD card slot, so users need to insert a microSD card for onboard recording. If you don't want to use a microSD card, it records over Bluetooth or through the receiver.
The Insta360 Mic uses the same receiver as the pro model and it is also possible to use different transmitters with the same receiver. What this means is that you can use the transmitter included with the Mic with that of the Mic Pro while using the same receiver. According to the spec sheet, you can connect up to 4 transmitters to a receiver or use 2 transmitters with 4 receivers if you are recording with more than one camera.
However, you do not need a transmitter if you are using it with Insta360 cameras such as the X6, X5, Luna Ultra, Luna Pro, Go Ultra, and Ace Pro 2. The X6 and Luna models also have support for two Mic transmitters simultaneously, so that two speakers can record straight to camera.
Insta360 says the new Mic has AI noise cancellation, automatic gain control, and voice tone presets. Battery life for the transmitter is 13 hours on a single charge, and it goes up to 34 hours with the charging case. There's fast charging too, as a 5-minute charge provides up to 2 hours and 20 minutes of use.
The Insta360 Mic costs $79.99/€85/£75 for a single transmitter, and goes up to $139.99/€149/£129 when you add a single receiver. Two transmitters and a single receiver takes the price to $249.99/€269/£229. In Canada, the price for the Insta360 Mic is CA$119.99 for a single transmitter, CA$199 for 1x transmitter and 1x receiver, and CA$359 for 2x transmitter and 1x receiver. The Insta360 Mic is available to buy starting today on the manufacturer's website and on Amazon.
