Dubrovnik is once again hosting a major international production, with filming under way for Disavowed, a new Apple TV action thriller starring Hollywood actor James Marsden.
Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković confirmed the news, saying the city’s streets were once again serving as a backdrop for a production intended for audiences around the world.
The series is being developed for Apple TV by screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, known for their work on Iron Man and Uncharted.
What is Disavowed about?
Marsden plays Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer who is abruptly dismissed while pursuing an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague.
Cut off from the intelligence world, Griffin decides to pursue the assassin independently, with a US$15 million federal bounty on the target’s head.
Marsden has appeared in a range of major film and television productions throughout his career, including the X-Men films, in which he played Cyclops, and the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise, where he plays Tom Wachowski.
His more recent television work includes Paradise, the thriller series in which he plays President Cal Bradford, and Your Friends & Neighbors, in which he portrays Owen Ashe.
He is also known for the comedy series Jury Duty, in which he appeared as a fictionalised version of himself. His casting in Disavowed adds another high-profile television project to his recent work.
Dubrovnik has become one of Croatia’s best-known international filming locations, with its medieval streets, historic architecture and coastal setting attracting productions from Hollywood and major streaming platforms.
The city’s most famous television connection is HBO’s Game of Thrones, in which Dubrovnik’s Old Town served as King’s Landing, the capital of the fictional Seven Kingdoms.
The city also appeared as the casino city of Canto Bight in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), while the 2018 film Robin Hood, starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx, used locations in Dubrovnik and elsewhere in Croatia.
More recently, Dubrovnik hosted filming for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s adventure series Outer Banks. Production began in October 2025, with locations including Stradun, the city walls, the Jesuit Stairs, Mount Srđ and Lokrum Island featuring in the series.
The arrival of Disavowed continues that pattern, bringing another internationally distributed production to the Adriatic city and offering audiences worldwide a new look at Dubrovnik’s historic streets.
Apple has not yet announced a release date for the series.
