The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says at least four former Afghan security personnel have been killed over the past three months.
In a report released on Thursday, October 15, the mission said it had documented 14 cases of arbitrary arrest and detention of former security force members during the same period.
UNAMA said in its latest report that former government officials and former security personnel returning to Afghanistan continue to face the risk of human rights violations.
These risks persist despite the general amnesty announced by the Taliban leader in 2021.
After returning to power in 2021, the Taliban announced a general amnesty for former government officials and security force members.
However, United Nations reports have repeatedly documented cases of detention, threats and killings involving former security personnel and officials from the previous government.
