LG Electronics (066570) is running outdoor video advertisements in New York, London and other major cities to encourage people to join efforts against hunger, marking World Food Day on Oct. 16. The company said it will expand food and health support for vulnerable groups in key markets as part of a broader push on environmental, social and governance management.
LG Electronics said on the 15th that it began screening a campaign video produced by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the 13th on outdoor displays at Times Square in New York and Piccadilly Circus in London.
The video, themed "Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow," will run through the 23rd. It shows people around the world working to address food shortages, delivering the message that combined efforts lead to solutions and encouraging viewers everywhere to take part.
The campaign is part of LG Hope Screen, the company's global social contribution program launched in 2011. The program places public-interest content from international organizations and non-governmental groups on outdoor screens in major overseas locations to raise awareness of issues including food shortages, global warming and extinction.

Beyond Hope Screen, LG Electronics also provides meal support for vulnerable groups in several countries. In Indonesia, it provided meals to residents of Pasirlangu village in West Java after a landslide earlier this year and worked with a local health center to support growth monitoring and health checkups for affected children.
The company also ran its Life's Good Nutrition Meal campaign in India, serving breakfast and lunch to 120,000 students at public schools across 16 states to address malnutrition among young people. It has donated food to vulnerable groups in Iraq, Singapore and other countries as well.
In South Korea, LG Electronics operates a donation menu program at its employee cafeterias, offering meals with fewer side dishes. Each time an employee chooses the menu, a contribution is set aside and used for volunteer activities such as supplying food to low-income households.
"We will continue a range of activities to address hunger, including spreading public-interest campaigns and providing meals to vulnerable groups, and fulfill our role as a global corporate citizen," said Yoon Dae-sik, head of corporate relations at LG Electronics.
