Mumbai, Oct 19: Three men suspected of being involved in the firing at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai were arrested at Kota railway station in Rajasthan on Monday while travelling on a train from Mumbai.
The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation into the shooting, which took place in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening.
Mumbai Police had registered a case of attempt to murder against three unidentified persons in connection with the firing.
The case, initially registered by Juhu police, was transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch in view of the seriousness of the offence.
Police had formed 15 teams to track down the assailants, an official said.
An FIR was registered under Sections 109(1), pertaining to attempt to murder, and 3(5), relating to acts committed in furtherance of a common intention, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, an official said.
Investigators were examining all possible angles, including potential links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the official said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday that police had obtained important leads to identify those involved in the attack and expected to arrest them soon.
“We will also track down their handlers, who hide elsewhere and send instructions from there,” Fadnavis said.
Describing the perpetrators as cowards, the Chief Minister said police took every threat seriously and would ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
“These are cowards who attempt to strike from hiding. Their attempts will be foiled, and they will not be spared,” he said.
Fadnavis said he had spoken to Shroff and assured the actor that the incident had been taken seriously and that security would be provided to him.
“I told him that we would identify and apprehend the accused and that he had no reason to worry,” Fadnavis said.
Unidentified assailants opened fire at Shroff’s car in Juhu on Sunday evening. The actor escaped without serious injury, while his driver and another person were injured.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post that went viral.
However, police have yet to verify the post’s authenticity, and the alleged gang link remains under investigation.
