While MCU heads may be glued to the synthezoid shenanigans of VisionQuest on the small screen just now, the folks at Marvel Television aren't slacking when it comes to preparing their next major MCU show. With the studio having surprise announced secretive new spy series Zodiac at New York Comic Con just a couple of weeks ago, triggering no end of online speculation about S.H.I.E.L.D symbols and Great Wheels, Deadline is now reporting that Marvel has found its writing team for the show: original Israeli Euphoria creator Amit Cohen and his Trust No One and Bad Boy collaborator Ron Leshem. And that's not all the trade is sharing, either.
Upon its October 8 announcement, precious little was known about what Zodiac may entail: its title references a prominent criminal organisation from Marvel Comics, while the 'O' and 'A' in the series' title treatment seemingly hint towards both writer Jonathan Hickman's shadowy, Illuminati-like comics supergroup and a reintegration of spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D into the MCU. Now however, Deadline is offering a little more plot detail, stating that the series "will follow a pair of spies who are chasing targets who have special abilities". It is, admittedly, not a hell of a lot more to go on than we had before, but does seemingly validate fans' speculation on both the show's title and its treatment's symbolic lettering. It also opens the door just a crack to legitimising online scuttlebutt that this new project may be gearing up to introduce entirely original characters as its leads and then have them investigate, among other things, some of the characters introduced in the Multiverse Saga who have fallen by the wayside in recent years.
With production on Zodiac due to get underway in London next year ahead of a planned 2028 Disney+ streaming release, expect to hear plenty more on Marvel's new spy series in the weeks and months ahead. And in the meantime, we guess it wouldn't hurt to binge all seven seasons of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D and the entire Multiverse Saga thus far just in case any of it becomes relevant in the near future. Any excuse, really....
