The nine matches produced goals, comebacks and late drama, with Como’s impressive victory over Manchester United and Arsenal’s fightback in Germany among the biggest talking points of the night.
According to results published by UEFA, Galatasaray also defeated Lille 4-2, Aston Villa beat Viking 3-1, Inter Milan edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0, Club Brugge defeated Lens 3-0, Real Betis beat Feyenoord 1-0, while LASK claimed a surprising 3-2 away victory over Sporting CP.
Como punish struggling Manchester United
Como delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the night, dismantling Manchester United 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in Italy.
Nico Paz opened the scoring in the second minute, curling the ball into the net after finding space outside the penalty area.
The hosts doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half when Paz supplied a precise pass for Anastasios Douvikas, who finished past the advancing goalkeeper in the 49th minute.
Paz struck again in the 57th minute after winning possession from Carlos Baleba and advancing towards goal before finishing with his left foot.
Jacobo Ramón added the fourth in the 76th minute, heading home a cross from substitute Kaiki Bruno as Como continued to exploit Manchester United’s defensive weaknesses.
Joshua Zirkzee scored a consolation goal in stoppage time following a delivery from Amad Diallo, but the late strike could not prevent United from suffering a heavy defeat.
The result increased the pressure on manager Michael Carrick, whose team struggled to match Como’s intensity and organisation.
The Italian side, coached by former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, earned widespread attention with a performance that exposed United’s defensive difficulties.
Arsenal rescue point against Bayern Munich
Arsenal came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in one of the evening’s most closely contested fixtures.
Eberechi Eze gave Arsenal the lead in the 25th minute after running on to a long pass from Martin Ødegaard and finishing past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The goal was initially ruled offside but was awarded after a video assistant referee review.
Bayern responded in the 35th minute when Alphonso Davies finished after being released by Harry Kane.
Kane then put the German champions ahead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after the ball struck Jurrien Timber’s raised hand.
Arsenal, however, refused to surrender and found an equaliser through Declan Rice in the 82nd minute. Rice exchanged passes with Viktor Gyökeres inside the penalty area before slotting the ball past Neuer.
The draw came at a cost for Arsenal, as England forward Bukayo Saka was forced off with an apparent injury in the 10th minute.
Rice’s late intervention nevertheless ensured that Arsenal left Munich with a valuable point against one of Europe’s leading clubs.
Real Madrid defeat Leipzig 4-1
Real Madrid maintained their winning start to the competition with a convincing 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois played an important role in keeping Madrid in the contest early on, making crucial interventions before the hosts established control.
Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt failed to hold Federico Valverde’s shot.
Arda Güler extended Madrid’s advantage seven minutes into the second half, finishing after a cross from Jude Bellingham.
Kylian Mbappé increased the lead in the 83rd minute with a curling effort into the top corner.
Leipzig responded almost immediately through Tidiam Gomis, who scored a minute later, but substitute Yan Diomande completed Madrid’s victory with a spectacular volley from Brahim Díaz’s cross.
The result gave Madrid a third consecutive win in the league phase.
Galatasaray win six-goal thriller against Lille
Galatasaray produced an impressive comeback to defeat Lille 4-2 away from home in France.
Yunus Akgün put the Turkish side ahead shortly after kick-off, but Lille responded through Soriba Diaoune, who equalised five minutes later before scoring again in the 39th minute to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
Galatasaray restored parity just before half-time when Alexey Batrakov headed home in the 44th minute.
A corner in the 52nd minute led to another Galatasaray goal, subsequently credited as an own goal by Lille’s Nabil Bentaleb.
Nigeria international Victor Osimhen then completed the scoring in the 61st minute with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area.
The victory underlined Galatasaray’s attacking threat and ability to recover after falling behind.
Aston Villa beat Viking, Inter edge Shakhtar
Aston Villa continued their impressive European campaign with a 3-1 victory over Viking.
Ross Barkley opened the scoring with a header from a corner before Emiliano Buendía converted a penalty to extend Villa’s lead. Alysson added a third with a deflected effort, while Peter Christiansen scored a late consolation for the Norwegian visitors.
In Italy, Inter Milan secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk despite finishing the match with 10 men.
Carlos Augusto scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute after controlling a long pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and finishing past the goalkeeper.
Inter had been reduced to 10 players eight minutes earlier when Alessandro Bastoni received a second yellow card for pushing an opponent away from the ball.
The Italian side nevertheless held on to claim all three points.
Club Brugge cruise past Lens
Club Brugge recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Lens, with Hans Vanaken, Joaquin Seys and Carlos Forbs finding the net.
The Belgian side’s victory was among the evening’s more decisive results, as Lens failed to score against a well-organised home defence.
Real Betis defeat Feyenoord
Real Betis secured a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord in Seville, with Isco converting a penalty in the 59th minute after a handball.
The goal proved decisive in a closely fought encounter, giving the Spanish side another important victory in the league phase.
LASK stun Sporting CP in Lisbon
LASK produced one of the evening’s biggest surprises by beating Sporting CP 3-2 away from home.
Sporting took an early lead through a penalty converted by Luis Suárez, but the Austrian visitors responded with goals from Christoph Lang, Saša Kalajdžić and Krystof Daněk to take control of the match.
