First Lady Fatima Bio and Unity Party Leader Madam Femi Claudius Cole have shown what unity in diversity means, following their joint appearance at the party’s 9th Anniversary and National Convention in Freetown.
In a Facebook post, Fatima Bio said she had the honour of presiding over the event at the FSSG Compound in Freetown, alongside Madam Femi Claudius Cole and members of the main opposition.
According to the First Lady, the presence of women from different political backgrounds at an event led by a female politician sent a strong message about the importance of women supporting one another in their pursuit of leadership positions.
She said women in Sierra Leone were ready to work together to ensure they not only secured seats at the decision-making table but were also prepared to take up leadership responsibilities.

Fatima Bio explained that the gathering was not only an opportunity to celebrate Madam Femi Claudius Cole for her contributions to Sierra Leone’s political landscape, but also a demonstration of solidarity among women across political lines.
She emphasised that women’s quest for leadership was not about competing with men or suggesting that men were incapable of leading. Rather, she said, it was about demonstrating women’s ability to contribute meaningfully to leadership and their collective determination to lead.

Addressing women across the country, Fatima Bio called on them to recognise their collective strength, stand up for themselves and support one another in pursuing leadership opportunities.
“To the 52% of women out there, this is our time. Let us rise, stand up for ourselves, and support one another,” she urged.
