(CNS): Cayman Airways Ltd was named the Caribbean’s Leading Airline 2026 at a gala in Jamaica on Sunday, marking a historic debut in the category and adding another milestone to its international profile. CAL has also been nominated for the first time for the title of World’s Leading Airline, placing it on a global line‑up of industry giants such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways and British Airways. It is the only Caribbean airline on the shortlist.
As Cayman Airways President and CEO Fabian Whorms accepted the award, he called it “an extraordinary honour” and a proud moment in the airline’s nearly six decades of service. He said the recognition shows that a small national carrier can compete on the world stage through “service excellence and authentic Caymanian hospitality”, according to a CAL press release.
Tourism Minister Gary Rutty said it was a boost for both the airline and the wider tourism sector, describing Cayman Airways as a “strategic national asset” whose international recognition strengthens the Cayman Islands’ credibility as a destination.
World Travel Awards founder Graham Cooke also highlighted the significance of the win, saying it showcases both the airline and the Cayman Islands to a global audience.
The award adds to a growing list of accolades for Cayman Airways, including Travel + Leisure’s ranking among the world’s top 15 international airlines in 2024 and consecutive APEX Four Star Major Airline honours in 2025 and 2026.
Voting for the World’s Leading Airline award remains open until 30 October on the World Travel Awards website.
