Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energía has opened two wind farms in Croatia, with a total capacity of 72 MW.
Croatia had 1,309 MW of installed wind capacity at the end of the first half of 2026, according to a WindEurope report. Meanwhile, Acciona Energía’s total installed capacity worldwide reached 14.7 GW by the end of June, while in Croatia it operates the Jelinak wind farm (30 MW) since 2013.
Acciona Energía said that it has completed the commissioning and start of commercial operations of its wind farms Opor (27 MW) and Boraja II (45 MW) in Croatia. Both wind farms have begun supplying electricity to the national grid through the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE).
Both projects are linked to 12-year contracts for difference
The Opor wind farm is located in the Split-Dalmatia region and features six turbines, while Boraja II is in Šibenik-Knin and comprises ten units. Both consist of 4.5 MW Nordex turbines mounted on 105-meter steel towers.
Both projects are linked to 12-year contracts for difference (CfD), awarded through a public auction under a program launched by the Croatian government and HROTE and approved by the European Commission to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, according to Acciona Energía.
This mechanism guarantees a reference price for the electricity generated, providing revenue stability for the projects and reducing their exposure to wholesale market price volatility, the company added.
Acciona is developing Promina solar power plant
Of note, Acciona Energía was the only company that won premiums for wind power projects at Croatia’s first auction for utility-scale renewable electricity plants. It was back in July 2022.
Two years later, the company was awarded a 12-year CfD deal for its Promina photovoltaic project, in the Šibenik-Knin county.
According to Acciona Energía, the Opor and Boraja II wind farms created up to 400 direct jobs, during peak construction activity. The projects will generate around 203 GWh of clean electricity annually and prevent the emission of approximately 135,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
