The investigation into the alleged assassination attempt on actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai has taken a new turn; according to reports, interrogation of the three accused revealed that they had initially travelled to Mumbai to target another high-profile individual.
However, after surveying areas frequented by the intended target, they allegedly concluded that reaching the person would be difficult and subsequently shifted their focus to Shroff.
The accused have been identified as Hrithik alias Roshan, 22, from Bihar, and Rehan, 18, and Phool Singh, 18, from Haryana. They allegedly opened fire at Shroff’s car on Sunday evening as the actor was leaving after playing a football match in Mumbai’s Juhu area.
The accused learnt through social media posts and reels shared by the actor’s fans that Shroff did not have police protection. They allegedly monitored the Instagram accounts of both the actor and his followers to track his movements.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly claimed that they intended to spread fear within the Bollywood industry by targeting the actor. They allegedly fired seven rounds at his vehicle and planned to continue shooting, but one of their firearms reportedly jammed. Shroff and his driver sustained injuries but managed to escape.
Hours after the incident, a purported member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack in an audio message. The speaker alleged that Shroff had been warned to end his association with actor Salman Khan but had failed to comply. The message also threatened individuals in the film industry who worked with Khan or refused to align with the gang. The authenticity of the claim remains a matter for investigators to establish.
Sources further claimed that the shooters received an advance payment of ₹50,000 and were promised additional money and employment opportunities abroad after carrying out the attack. They allegedly informed their handlers that the operation had been completed after the shooting.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff at his residence on Monday and condemned the incident. He said the government would not allow such acts of intimidation in Mumbai, stressing that nobody would be permitted to take the law into their own hands.
The investigation is continuing, with authorities seeking to establish the full circumstances behind the shooting, the alleged motive and the role of those suspected of directing the attack.
