Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee on Saturday announced his arrival in London, calling on Indians living abroad to gather for a protest at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in London Parliament Square on Sunday.
Announcing the event in a video on social media after landing in the British capital, Rathee said, "I've just reached London. It's time the world sees the reality of vote chor and murderer of democracy." He asked supporters to gather at noon, adding, "International danka bajane ka time aa gaya hai."

His call comes as India's response to protests over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is drawing scrutiny overseas. The exercise has reportedly struck more than 130 million names off the electoral rolls nationwide. On Friday, a group of six Democratic lawmakers in the United States wrote to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, asking him to take up with New Delhi their concerns over what they described as heavy-handed treatment of student demonstrators, detentions, and monitoring of protests associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The London plan follows a confrontation in India a week earlier. Rathee said that plainclothes personnel took him away before a demonstration he had planned in Delhi on October 10 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. At a press conference the next day, he disputed the use of the word "detention" for what happened. "I was not detained; I was kidnapped," he said.
According to Rathee, he flew to India for that protest because he considers the vote-theft allegations and the questions around the Election Commission a serious national issue. Amid online claims doubting his nationality, he has also put out a video on social media showing his Indian passport and affirming that he is an Indian citizen.
