Manchester United will look to end their ongoing crisis when they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
The match could prove decisive for Michael Carrick, whose position as manager is coming under increasing scrutiny following a series of disappointing results. Wednesday’s humiliating 4–1 defeat to Como intensified the pressure, with captain Bruno Fernandes becoming the second player to publicly express frustration with the club’s staff and hierarchy.
United are now seven matches without a victory across all competitions and desperately need only their third win of the campaign when Bournemouth visit. With just seven points from seven Premier League matches, the situation remains bleak for the Red Devils, who have endured similar struggles in recent years.
Bournemouth endured a difficult start under new manager Marco Rose but have shown signs of improvement since the international break. Consecutive 3–0 victories over Sturm Graz and AC Milan in the Europa League, with the latter managed by former United boss Ruben Amorim, came either side of their first Premier League win of the season against Sunderland last weekend.
The Cherries know a victory at Old Trafford would take them above their hosts on the table. They will also draw confidence from their impressive recent record at the venue.
Man Utd vs Bournemouth Prediction
Pressure Mounts On Red Devils
United appear to be struggling to find a way out of their current predicament. Beyond the challenge of facing Bournemouth, one of their troublesome opponents in recent seasons, they have difficult fixtures against Chelsea, Roma, Aston Villa and Liverpool in their next four matches.

A win over the Cherries could be crucial to Carrick’s future and might help restore some unity within the dressing room, at least temporarily. However, United have shown little evidence of turning their season around, with recent performances characterised by a lack of urgency and cohesion.
Their last three Premier League matches have all ended in 1–1 draws, and another stalemate could be on the cards against Bournemouth, who have also recorded three draws in the league this season.
Another defeat could spell the end of Carrick’s tenure at Old Trafford.
Head-to-head record: United have struggled against Bournemouth in recent seasons, going winless in their last six meetings. The run includes two damaging 3–0 defeats at Old Trafford. They also played out a 4–4 draw at home last season, one of four draws between the sides over the past three campaigns.
Underwhelming beginnings: Across their 14 Premier League matches this season, United and Bournemouth have recorded only two wins between them. United’s victory came in a 5–2 thrashing of Ipswich Town, while Bournemouth defeated bottom-placed Sunderland.
Lack of application: Fernandes argued after the Como defeat that the players should not shoulder the blame for United’s poor performances. However, the team rank 19th in the Premier League for distance covered this season and have been outrun in six of their seven matches, raising further questions about their work rate.
Prediction: Man Utd 1–1 Bournemouth
