Suns claim Gonzaga legend off waivers appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Coach Jordan Ott’s Phoenix Suns are preparing for October 21’s season opener at Portland and have been busy in the front office, recently announcing Oso Ighodaro’s contract extension. Forward Dillon Brooks spoke out about a team culture issue that Mat Ishbia fixed ahead of the season, which will now include a surprise addition who became well known from his college days at Gonzaga.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Ott’s team has signed Zags legend Drew Timmeoff waivers after he spent training camp with Chris Finch’s Minnesota Timberwolves. Timme has averaged 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in two NBA seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
The news comes with Phoenix’s opener at the Portland Trail Blazers just days away. The Suns don’t have a ton of star power heading into the year, but they have a scrappy roster led by unheralded players including defensive stopper Ryan Dunn, who spoke with Clutch Points about a love for hunting “new milestones.”

The offseason hasn’t been without controversy in Phoenix as Kevin Durant recently fired back at Ishbia over “culture” related criticisms. Positive feedback has come from a former NBA coach, who had a positive Miles Bridges prediction about Ott’s team heading into the season.
Bringing Timme aboard Ott’s ship gives the Suns another team-first player who excels at moving without the ball, rebounding, passing, and other little things teams need to win. The Suns won’t be anyone’s pick to reach the Finals this season outside of Arizona, but they have quietly built an interesting group of players that can challenge anyone on any given night.
