Omonia moved into the top eight of the Europa League table after following up their opening win over Celta Vigo with a commanding 3-0 victory away to Celje in Slovenia.
The Cypriot side, who beat Celta 1-0 in their first league phase outing, have collected six points from two matches with a goal difference of plus four. That leaves them sixth in the 36-team standings.
Henning Berg’s side currently occupy a direct qualification spot for the last 16, having left a number of established European names in their wake. They are one of 10 teams with a perfect record of six points, and have yet to concede a goal in the competition.
With six matches still to play, the table is sure to shift. However, Omonia have already built a healthy cushion in the race for the top 24 and can legitimately look higher still.
Their next test comes against Benfica at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, which will provide another measure of the club’s European ambitions.
