By Zoila Palma: The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) is hosting two entrepreneurship training workshops in Hopkins Village, Stann Creek District, and San Pedro Columbia Village, Toledo District, under the PROSPER Project.
The workshops aim to strengthen business skills, encourage entrepreneurship and create economic opportunities for rural and Indigenous communities, particularly women and young people.
In San Pedro Columbia, 20 participants have begun the first day of the five-day Gender and Entrepreneurship Together (GET Ahead) training.
The program is designed to strengthen entrepreneurial skills, build business knowledge and help participants start or expand their enterprises. Through practical activities and guided learning, participants will gain tools to develop their business ideas and improve their prospects for success.
Meanwhile, participants in Hopkins Village are taking part in the “My Green Entrepreneurship: Starting My Green Enterprise” course. The training focuses on helping aspiring entrepreneurs develop environmentally friendly business ideas and turn them into practical, sustainable business plans. Participants are being introduced to opportunities for establishing green enterprises while building the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue their business goals.
BELTRAIDE says the workshops seek to promote entrepreneurship, advance gender equality and support sustainable livelihoods.
By providing practical business skills and guidance, the initiative can help participants turn their ideas into income-generating opportunities, strengthen local economies and contribute to more resilient communities. The training also encourages environmentally responsible business practices that can support long-term development.
The PROSPER Project, which stands for Participation, Ownership, and Sustainable Progress for Economic Resilience, is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labour Organization in partnership with the Government of Belize.
