Alabama Issues Strong Statement on Fans Throwing Objects at Georgia Players

The then No. 2 Georgia beat No. 6 Alabama 20-17 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night, moving to 6-0 and handing the Crimson Tide their first loss of the season.

Gunner Stockton was efficient, going 18 of 22 for 249 yards and a touchdown, and he added a rushing score. Georgia ran for 206 yards as a team. Alabama led 14-10 at halftime, but the Bulldogs took the lead in the third quarter. Peyton Woodring’s 23-yard field goal with just over five minutes left proved to be the winner.

However, one of the game’s biggest talking points came after the final whistle, when Alabama fans threw bottles and cans at Georgia players as they left the field. Alabama released an official statement Monday calling the behavior "unacceptable."

"We are disappointed by the unacceptable behavior exhibited by some of the game’s attendees last night and are in the process of gathering information," the statement reads. "Alabama takes matters of fan conduct seriously and expects everyone at our events to demonstrate respect to the student-athletes, coaches, staff, officials and visitors. Such conduct will not be tolerated."

Alabama could be in line for some kind of penalty. In 2024, Texas fans threw bottles and trash onto the field during a loss to Georgia. The SEC fined Texas $250,000 the next day, and commissioner Greg Sankey said that type of behavior "cannot be part of any SEC event."

The SEC also required Texas to identify the fans responsible and ban them from Texas events for the rest of that year, and it told the school to review its alcohol policies. LSU received the same $250,000 fine later that season after fans threw bottles during a home game against Alabama.

The SEC has a history of dealing with incidents like the one in Tuscaloosa, so it’s reasonable to expect some form of punishment could be coming.
