(ANSA) - ROME, 15 OTT - Catholic faithful are praying non-stop at Rome's Gemelli Hospital for Pope Leo XIV to make a full and swift recovery from lung-cancer surgery and have expressed the hope that he can experience his period of recovery with confidence that the cancer has not spread.
"In this Mass, we once again entrust our dear Holy Father to the Lord—who has been hospitalized here at our medical center for a few days," said Father Nunzio Currao, one of the chaplains at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, as he celebrated the midday Mass in the hospital's Saint John Paul II Chapel.
"We pray that he may experience this time with serenity and confidence, certainly sustained by the expertise and dedication of those caring for him." Today, too, the Gemelli is bustling with inpatients, outpatients, doctors, nurses, students, and staff of all kinds from the large Roman hospital.
Notably, on the feast day of Saint Teresa, several Missionaries of Charity—the order founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta—are also visible, wearing their distinctive white and blue habits.
A discreet yet ever-present security detail surrounds the Pope, consisting of Gendarmes and police officers from the Vatican Public Security Inspectorate.
As always, they are guarding the access routes to the restricted tenth floor, where the Pontiff is staying. (ANSA).
