State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said BNP's ideal is to build Bangladesh with the participation of everyone, regardless of religion or community.
He made the remarks at a meeting with members of the Hindu community after visiting the Sabalia Panjapara puja mandap in Tangail town on Tuesday night (20 October), according to the press release.
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. There is no question of minorities or majorities here. Regardless of religion or community, we share one identity – we are all Bangladeshis. BNP's ideal is also to build the country together with everyone," Tuku said.
The state minister said there would be no compromise on national interests and urged everyone to work together for the country's future.
"We want to move forward with the country in our hearts. We must work together for its interests and future," he said.
Addressing Hindu devotees, Tuku said, "You are celebrating Durga Puja with joy and enthusiasm, and we stand beside you. The prime minister visited puja mandaps in three divisions today. We have also closely monitored preparations and taken the necessary measures to ensure that Durga Puja is celebrated without disruption. Allocations have been increased compared with last year."
He alleged that forces he described as fascist, who had been driven out of the country by the people, were attempting to conspire again but had failed.
"If we remain vigilant and united, no conspiracy will succeed. The conspirators will be consigned to the dustbin of history. We must all work together with the country's interests and future in mind," he said.
Outlining his stance against illegal drugs, Tuku pledged to build a drug-free Tangail and said he wanted efforts to eradicate drugs nationwide to begin in the district.
"There will be no leniency on this issue. If anyone from my own party is involved in drugs, they will not be spared either. Our leaders are also speaking out on this," he said.
Following the meeting, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman Miah, Dhaka Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman and other officials visited several puja mandaps in Tangail town, including Chhoto Kalibari and Boro Kalibari.
They reviewed the overall arrangements and security measures and exchanged Durga Puja greetings with members of the Hindu community.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarker, leaders of puja celebration committees and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations were present.
