The personal assistant to late gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, Babadunni Gbolabo, has recounted how the singer was taken to between seven and eight hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo State, after suddenly slumping, but efforts to secure medical attention were unsuccessful.
Gbolabo said the singer appeared to be in good health before the incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, adding that attempts to obtain medical assistance at several hospitals proved unsuccessful. According to him, some facilities cited a doctors’ strike, while others reportedly declined to admit the singer.
Toluwanisings died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, according to a statement released by his family. The family announced his death without disclosing the cause.
Singer reportedly slumped without warning
Speaking in Yoruba on Thursday, Gbolabo said he was not present when the incident occurred but rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call informing him that the singer had slumped.
“I am Babadunni Gbolabo. I am the PA to ToluwaniSings. When it happened in the morning, I wasn’t here, so they called me, and I came,” he said.
The personal assistant explained that the singer had appeared to be in good health before the sudden incident, adding that those around him attempted to revive him before seeking medical assistance.
“There was nothing wrong with him. He was very fine and in perfect condition. He just slumped. They tried to resuscitate him. They went helter-skelter. They took him to some hospitals, but they were giving excuses,” Gbolabo said.
His account suggested that the people around the singer made frantic efforts to obtain treatment as they moved between hospitals in Ibadan in search of medical attention.
Hospitals allegedly declined to admit singer
Gbolabo said the search for medical assistance took the group to between seven and eight hospitals, but they were unable to secure the treatment they sought.
According to him, some of the hospitals reportedly attributed their inability to provide assistance to a doctors’ strike, while others did not admit the singer.
“Some said doctors were not working because of the strike. Some did not admit him at all. That is how it went. We tried our best, including prayers. We took him to up to seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan, but God said his time was up,” he said.
The account has drawn attention to the difficulties the singer’s associates said they encountered while seeking emergency medical assistance. However, the circumstances surrounding the reported hospital visits, including the identities of the facilities involved, were not disclosed in the account.
Neither the family’s announcement nor Gbolabo’s account, as reported, established the medical cause of the singer’s death.
Family begins discussions on funeral arrangements
The personal assistant also disclosed that Toluwanisings’ body had been deposited at a mortuary while family members gathered to discuss the next steps following his death.
He said the family was yet to conclude its deliberations on the funeral arrangements, adding that decisions would be implemented after the relatives had met and agreed on the way forward.
“The family members are here. So, we are all just managing the situation, as the body is currently at the mortuary. Once the family members hold their meeting and are clear on things, that is when we will know the next step to take,” he said.
Gbolabo added that the necessary arrangements had not been concluded, noting that the family would determine the next course of action after its meeting.
“But they haven’t done the necessary things. Whatever they conclude upon arrival, that is what we will execute,” he said.

The singer’s family had earlier announced his death in a statement shared on his social media account, describing him as a beloved husband, family member and gospel minister.
The announcement did not provide details about the circumstances of his death or identify any medical condition that might have led to the incident.
The family also said information about his funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
