Whatever happened to Belfast's £60,000 sculpture?
Mystery has surrounded the disappearance of an iconic piece of public artwork for more than 10 years… until now.
Installed in 1992, the ‘Waterfall of Souvenirs’ was a 5-metre-high mosaic sculpture that stood proudly at the doors of the Great Victoria Street Bus Station, beside the Europa Hotel, welcoming visitors coming to and from the city for more than 23 years.
It is believed to have cost more than £60,000 of public funds to create and features a number of “souvenirs” from Northern Ireland, such as the Giant’s Causeway, leprechauns and even an Ulster Fry cascading down the motionless water feature.
