Companies that watched federal enforcement cases against them disappear have since sent serious money to President Trump’s political operation. A Public Citizen report published on October 8, 2026 puts the figure at $210.5 million contributed or pledged to pro-Trump super PACs.
Some of crypto’s best-known names sit on that donor list. Crypto.com, Gemini, and venture firm Andreessen Horowitz all appear prominently, and the timing of their checks is drawing attention.
Who gave what
The consumer watchdog reviewed the Trump administration’s rollback of federal enforcement. It counted 212 enforcement actions that were canceled or weakened, involving 205 corporations.
Public Citizen then cross-referenced those companies against political giving. Collectively, the corporations that benefited have contributed or pledged $210.5 million to groups such as MAGA Inc. and Keep America Great.
Crypto.com stands out. According to the report, the exchange gave $35 million to MAGA Inc. and $2 million to Keep America Great. Those donations followed the SEC’s decision to cancel an investigation into the platform over unregistered securities trading.
Gemini’s contributions came from both the company and its founders. The exchange donated $20 million to MAGA Inc., while co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss each personally gave $10 million, bringing the Gemini-linked total to $40 million. Those contributions followed a dropped SEC probe of its own.
Andreessen Horowitz, the venture capital firm often called a16z, also made the list. The firm and co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz donated $12 million to MAGA Inc.
The a16z connection runs a little differently. Rather than the firm itself facing a dropped case, Public Citizen found that nine companies in its investment portfolio benefited from the canceled federal actions.
The backdrop: enforcement out, donations in
It is worth being precise about what the report documents. It shows a sequence: enforcement was dropped or softened, and donations followed. Public Citizen frames this as a troubling pattern of regulatory relief tied to political giving and raises ethical concerns about corporate money in politics.
The report documents timing and amounts. It does not, based on the findings described, present proof of an explicit exchange of donations for dropped cases.
What this means for crypto and its regulators
Gemini’s donations came partly from its founders’ personal accounts, while Crypto.com’s came from the corporate side. a16z’s contribution mixed firm and founder money and connects to a wider portfolio of companies.
For investors, the practical question is how much regulatory risk is truly gone versus simply paused. Public Citizen’s count of 212 canceled or weakened actions across 205 corporations is a measure of how much changed. It is also a measure of how much could change back.
