L&F (066970.KS), a battery materials maker, said on the 12th that it has obtained international-standard carbon footprint verification for its cathode material products.
L&F received a carbon footprint verification statement based on the ISO 14067 international standard from global verification body LRQA at a ceremony held on the 7th at its headquarters in Daegu. The verification establishes the credibility of the company's system for calculating and managing carbon emissions at the product level, giving it a basis to respond to global environmental regulations and customer requirements.
A product carbon footprint measures greenhouse gas emissions generated across a product's entire life cycle, from raw material sourcing to energy use in production and the treatment of waste and wastewater. ISO 14067, set by the International Organization for Standardization, is the international standard for calculating and reporting product carbon footprints. L&F built its cathode material emissions accounting system under that standard and secured the objectivity and credibility of its data through third-party verification by LRQA.
Carbon footprint data is central to how automakers and battery manufacturers manage emissions across their supply chains. As global environmental rules tighten, including the European Union's battery regulation, the data is emerging as a factor in a product's market competitiveness. The verification is significant in that it allows emissions to be calculated objectively for each product and sets a baseline for future reduction efforts.
Through the verification, L&F has strengthened its ability to meet customer demands for supply chain carbon data. The company plans to refine its product-level carbon data using ABB's smart factory life cycle assessment (LCA) system and to cut emissions in production processes, energy use and raw material sourcing.
"This product carbon footprint verification is official recognition that L&F has carbon data management capabilities that meet global standards," said Park Nam-won, head of L&F's strategic planning division. "We will continue to manage emissions precisely based on life cycle assessment and advance our reduction activities, contributing to stronger sales competitiveness for our products and to building a sustainable battery supply chain."
