The moment unfolded in the comments section of Machoka's thank-you video, posted on Monday, October 12, 2026, two days after his landmark anniversary concert.
In the clip, the man fondly known as Uncle Fred was expressing his gratitude to fans, sponsors and all those who showed up for the celebration.
He also opened up about the nerves leading into the big night, revealing that organisers had genuine concerns about whether the event would go ahead.
"I want to thank you for last night, for the great rhumba concert of the decade... At first we were worried that Ebola could cause the event not to take off... But God Almighty took care of everything," Machoka said.
MachokaAt50 concert makes history
The concert, held on October 10 at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, marked 50 years since Machoka first stepped into broadcasting at Voice of Kenya, now known as KBC. He went on to become the beloved voice behind Radio Citizen's Roga Roga, cementing his reputation as the King of Rhumba in Kenya.
The show pulled in an impressive line-up headlined by Congolese legend Koffi Olomide, with performances also from Mbilia Bel, Sam Fan Thomas, Les Wanyika and Them Mushrooms.
Fan Valary Mukhisa summed up the feelings of many in the comments, writing:
"Uncle's events are usually lit! I don't miss them for anything. Uncle, I remember you rogarogad us in Bungoma once and that was my turning point in rhumba. Big up uncle!"
Fan's comment leaves Machoka speechless
As the praise flooded in, one comment stood out above the rest. A follower identified as Vlo Let wrote:
"Welcomed a newborn baby boy named Uncle Fred Obachi Machoka👏."
The comment racked up 63 likes within 17 hours and caught the OGW-awarded broadcaster's eye. His reply was short, raw and entirely genuine: "Wueh!!!! Wawaaah!!"
That response alone pulled in 26 likes and triggered a fresh wave of celebration in the comments from fans who recognised just how special the gesture was.
For a man who began his career in 1976, having a child bear his name just days after his golden jubilee concert speaks volumes about the kind of legacy he has built over five decades in the industry.
Did Machoka speak after drama?
We also highlighted facts about Machoka’s Golden Jubilee Rhumba concert, including the performances and the controversies involving Koffi Olomide and Gloria Orwoba.
Despite fears that rain, Ebola concerns and crowd management could derail the event, the concert went ahead to huge acclaim.
But two separate dramas threatened to overshadow the music, leaving Machoka to reflect on a night that brought both celebration and tension.
