US President Donald Trump has received global scorn after tweeting a series of cryptic online updates, including the release of a surreal artificial intelligence made video where the US President is seen “wrestling” a tiger that was later blamed for an animal attack in the United Kingdom.
The intense outrage followed the president’s posted footage of a real and upsetting incident captured at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England.
Twenty-three-year-old William Chapman was mauled and killed after he jumped into the enclosure of big cats.
Public safety activists, internet users, and family members of the victim spoke out against the president for posting the grainy, unedited recording, which was made in direct defiance of the victim’s relatives’ pleas for the footage not to be shared.
Instead of responding to the outrage, or taking down the original tweets, the drama unfolded further when the president posted his own strange, fantasy AI video.
The computer generated video showed a digital doppelganger of Trump running after the feline, tackling it, and embracing the big cat while beaming.
The strange video rapidly became an internet sensation, igniting an outsized public backlash on various social media channels.
Commentators and public safety officials criticized the post for being downright insensitive, as the offensive video is perceived by many as turning a tragic real-life death into a strange, self-serving meme – a disturbing display of unempathetic humor at a family’s (presumably) shared expense.
Ultimately, public safety officials and political experts have expanded their concern over the dissemination of graphic digital imagery and the deface of norm-breaking AI output by influential public figures.
