The spring/summer 2027 shows put an everyday staple into the spotlight – the button-down shirt. You only need to look to the recent success of British brand With Nothing Underneath (a label that has built a whole business around this staple) to see the wardrobe potential of shirting, however the spring shows proved there is still more ground to be covered. If you do a Vogue Runway trawl and click through big hitters including Givenchy, Chanel, Miu Miu, Prada and Bottega Veneta you’ll quickly see that shirts are a dominant theme of the overall season.
From blue stripes and lavender cotton to midnight silks, spring’s shirts extended beyond your typical corporate white, however the styling was also just as varied. A lot came down to button placement, with shirts either worn completely loose (see Bottega Veneta), with one strategic button at the collar (as at Chanel), buttons skipped to create a waist and movement (Simone Rocha) or worn completely fastened (Prada). You don’t need to wait until 2027 to try these shirting tweaks either, as all of these looks have a seasonless quality to them meaning they can be just as easily applied to your autumn wardrobe.
There was a rebellious energy to the spring 2027 shows, as in Laird Borrelli-Persson’s summary of the season she highlights “misfit glamour” as a key theme, with an “intriguing offness of fit.” She writes: “Jackets pull at the waist, while lapels scallop and swerve. And not only that; shirts and jeans were occasionally worn backward on the runways, or were designed to have that effect.”
Keep reading for ideas for how we will all wear shirts next, according to the spring 2027 shows.
With a V-neck

Miu Miu SS27.
["Filippo Fior", "Launchmetrics.com/spotlight"]At Miu Miu, a shirt with a highly starched collar was layered underneath a preppy cobalt blue V-neck knit; a bookish duo that was de-prepped with baggy jeans which are held up with skater-style laces in place of a zip.

Simone Rocha SS27.
Launchmetrics.com/spotlightSimone Rocha is all about volume and for spring/summer 2027 she showed she’s a master of silhouette with a tiered full skirt that almost looked like a piece of crumpled up paper. Understanding that a skirt like this can’t compete for your attention, she paired it with a lavender shirt with the sleeves bunched up to mirror the artful scrunch of the skirt. Leaving the bottom button open to flare over the skirt gives a beautiful A-line shape and adds movement.

Prada SS27.
Launchmetrics.com/spotlightIf you’ve read any Vogue Shopping content over the past month you will no doubt have heard that Prada has kicked off a campaign to get us to retire dresses and trousers, as the 63-look collection exclusively featured skirts. Miuccia delivered a skirt styling masterclass, however we love how buttoning this black (navy works, too) shirt right to the top creates a clean, neat line when tucked into a high-waisted statement midi.

Bottega Veneta SS27.
Launchmetrics.com/spotlightVogue’s Nicole Phelps in her review of Louise Trotter’s third collection for Bottega Veneta noted that her insistence on “the everydayness” of her precious garments is appealing. This is seen clearly with look 14, where a buttery yellow shirt is tucked into high-waisted black trousers – it’s effortless, but immaculate. The key to mastering this unbuttoned and tucked look is to be particular with a steamer – imagine you’re a Vogue assistant trusted with your first cover shoot.

Chanel SS27.
Isidore MontagShirts also had a presence in Matthieu Blazy’s spring/summer 2027 collection for Chanel, where the above ensemble proves that small styling tweaks can transform even the simplest of outfits. Again, this came down to the button placement, as he fastened just the top pearl at the collar and left the rest of the shirt open to create a triangular shape under the blazer.

Givenchy SS27.
Courtesy of GivenchyButton-down shirts were a foundational piece in Sarah Burton’s Givenchy collection, with a focus on structure. “Everything is cut in a very engineered way,” she said to Nicole Phelps, and this is applied to the clean white blouse which she revealed is an “ important and growing category at Givenchy.” White shirts were worn underneath black dresses and paired with pencil skirts, for a powerful take on executive dressing.
