A journalist was shot and killed at Kalmakanda municipality in Netrokona, almost a year after he survived a brutal hacking attack.
Lutfuzzaman Alif Fakir, the Netrokona correspondent of internet TV channel Ruposhi Bangla, was killed at Utrail bazar in the municipality of Durgapur upazila around 8:15pm, when two unidentified assailants opened fire on him.
Alif Fakir also ran a Facebook page “Detective Article,” where he used to write about irregularities and crimes.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khondokar Shaker Ahmed told reporters that the victim’s body sustained bullet injuries, and cartridges were recovered from the crime scene. He was rushed to the upazila health complex, where doctors pronounced him dead, the officer added.
Eyewitness and a trader at Utrail bazar, Rabin Rangsa, said Alif Fakir came to his shop at night to buy some cigarettes. When leaving, he left his mobile phone at the shop by mistake. Soon afterwards, he returned, and took the mobile phone with him. Two unidentified youth started following him, and afterwards, gunshots were heard, Rabin Rangsa told reporters.
