The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan has said, marking World Polio Day, that every child has the right to grow up healthy and remain safe from the risk of contracting polio.
On Saturday, October 24, UNICEF emphasized the need to combat polio and protect children against the disease.
The organization added: “Let us renew our commitment to fighting this disease and ensure a polio-free future for our children.”
Polio is a contagious viral disease that primarily affects children under the age of five and can cause permanent paralysis.
Vaccination is the primary means of preventing the disease, and completing the full course of polio vaccination is essential to protecting children.
