FOLLOWING a year-long hiatus to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, actress Janna Nick is channelling her energy behind the camera rather than stepping back in front of it.
The 31-year-old star confessed that watching her peers take on new roles has not tempted her into an immediate acting comeback.
Instead, her primary ambition has firmly shifted towards mastering the art of directing.
"When I watch my friends having fun acting, I think it's not time for me to return to that world. My ambition is not to become the best actor — though if I get a good script, of course, I'd give my best. But what I aspire to is to become the best director," she said.
This shift means TV viewers can expect to see much less of her on screen for now.
Janna is dedicating her time to upcoming directorial projects slated for next year.
She is focusing on tackling meaningful social issues, particularly childhood trauma and giving a voice to vulnerable young people.
"I have a wonderful story to share; I want to talk about childhood trauma. Something that can benefit those who are unable to speak up.
"As we know, young children cannot raise their voices because people do not believe them, or they are afraid to speak out.
"It is my responsibility to tell their stories; that is my goal," she explained.
While TV drama series are on the back burner due to gruelling shooting schedules, the filmmaker remains open to silver-screen opportunities if the right script comes along.
"If I receive a film offer, I might accept it. As for dramas, I will evaluate what the script is like. Drama acting requires significant time commitment, at least 35 days.
"Shooting takes about 18 hours a day, but in my current situation, I need to think creatively; my brain cannot afford to get exhausted.
"As someone working behind the scenes, having a calm space is essential for creative thinking," she said.
This new professional chapter comes shortly after her academic success in the UK, where she graduated with flying colours, earning a Master of Arts in Filmmaking.
