PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s information and communication technology (ICT) industry and e-commerce contributed RM476.8 billion, or 23.5 per cent, to the country’s gross domestic product in 2025, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) ICT Satellite Account statistics.
Chief statistician Siti Asiah Ahmad said the combined ICT industry and e-commerce, collectively known as the ICT economy, expanded by 5.6 per cent in 2025 compared with 5.2 per cent in the preceding year. “The overall performance reflects the continued expansion of ICT-related economic activities in Malaysia,” she said in a statement today.
Siti Asiah said the ICT industry generated RM288.1 billion in gross value added in 2025, with ICT services accounting for the largest share at 40.3 per cent, followed by ICT manufacturing at 38.2 per cent.
She said both segments grew by 7.6 per cent and 6.4 per cent, respectively, while ICT trade contributed 15.3 per cent and the content and media industry accounted for the remaining 6.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed DOSM head said e-commerce recorded gross value added of RM267.6 billion, contributing 13.2 per cent to the national economy, with growth of 3.7 per cent.
